Is it common for 27 year old men to be students in France? Where do 27 year old students get dough for Caribbean vacations?

After several years in the Army I got my degree at 27. My wife and I were making about $70,000 a year (in the 70's) had no children yet and went to Europe almost every summer. If in grad school I don't think 27 is real odd.

Regardless, I avoid flying if at all possible. Used to be a 4-hour drive for business warranted a flight instead. Now I've pushed that threshold up to 6-8 hours.

There was a girl in front of me at the security check-point wearing thongs (not the panties type), and the "security official" asked her to take them off. If you were making a substantial part of $70,000 per in the 1970's it's likely you were not a full-time student and would have described youself as a computer programmer or a janitor or whatever. There seem to be a lot of lay-about perpetual students in Europe with too much time and money who have nothing better to do than foment trouble. Having to make that mortgage payment leads to social stability imho.

I suppose they make guns that small. Would a 25-year old white female be carrying one unseen on her 110-pounds frame? Highly unlikely. Is that an appropriate use of time/resources?

My overall point is, who needs the hassle? That's why I can't fault those who've decided to drive in order to avoid this hassle altogether.

Walking through security is easy.... It is only dealing with butt-head people who find anything and everything intolerable that makes it hard.

To individualist-extremists, though, any personal sacrifice is just way too much of a burden to bear. It could be standing in a line, or removing one's shoes, or having to get a driver's license, or filling out a tax form. Butt-head people are all that matters in all the world to butt-head people.
