Fox & Friends had a Popeye impersonator on yesterday morning. He was very good. Seems to me that Segar must have met Hillary a couple of times. How else would he come up with his Sea Hag character?

As a kid, Popeye was my favorite TV cartoon. Warner Bros. cartoons were good and the Disney animations were okay. But Popeye, Olive Oyl, Bluto and Wimpy had real character and they were fun to watch. Still are too!

I'm with you when it comes to Popeye. I grew up in the 50's, and although Casper the Friendly Ghost, and Mighty Mouse were some of my favorite cartoons, there's nobody like Popeye. On certain Saturdays during the year, the local movie theater would have cartoon jamborees and you could sit for what seemed like hours and watch your favorite cartoon characters on the big screen. It was great!

God, I loved the old Popeyes cartoons. I have a secret collection of the wartime favorites. Popeye will always be my hero.

Popeye was fun but it never got me to eat spinach. The cartoon helped the hamburg business more than anything.

Max Fleischer's creations from the 1940`s-50`s will never die. Along with Popeye, Fleischer and his brother Dave were responsible for Koko the Clown, Betty Boop and the Superman cartoons from the 1940`s.

It's not possible for a man this old to be a smoker.
Is it?
Regards,
PS: If that man ISN'T the inspiration for Popeye, I'd hate to see the one who IS.

This is the town I grew up in and went to school. I left in the early 70's and have only been back once for my dads funeral. Lots of history in that little town and many little towns throughout the midwest. But, I am so glad I don't live there anymore.
