I'm not clear on the concept. Do we or don't we forgive drug-abusers who go into rehab? Every time I see a Hollywood star (Robert Downy) or a sports figure (Brett Favre) go to rehab, it seems like the courts and the court of public opinion is on their side. And often the judges mandate rehab in lieu of jailtime. So why are we going after a guy who admitted the problem to more people at once then anyone else in history ... then entered the program for five weeks and now is apparently having good success with his continual rehab? How is society benefitted by investigating this case when the cards are already on the table?
By the way, I have listened for many years and I have never heard him call for strict jail sentences in these cases. Looking back on it, it was more of a case he didn't discuss the subject much at all ... just as you might expect.

'fraid that's just what was at the bottom of the letter on the linked website (though I put the @ symbol in, instead of (at). Ahh well, it doesn't shock me. A columnist writing as a 'concerned citizen.' Though I must admit, I don't exactly disagree with all his comments.

He obviously isn't going to be man enough to admit he did something wrong. He already did.

Conservatives don't whine. If one of 'em starts whining, they need to be slapped up the side of the head and told, ''You're starting to sound like a liberal.''

seminar callers are out in force in talk radio land. It is not just on Rush, ALL radio has been plagued by their insipid formula (I agree but....)

Using your rights in a political criminal case is not much of a game. The only games are comming from the palm beach SA. ((s)unless of course he has been threatened with arkanside. da da daaaaa. (/s))

Carl Hiaasen can hardly be considered a Rush fan. He's a little known writer and a editorialist for the Miami Herald. His books are usually left leaning. Pro enviro-extremist, anti-goverment, anti-developmet, anti-capitalist.

A feeble attempt to make fun of Rush and his loyal listeners.
I found this fools official website (
http://www.carlhiaasen.com/) but there isn't an email address.

When I first read Hiaasen I thought he was very, very funny and sharp. Then I caught on to the formulaic template he was using.
Google the guy and you'll see that he's anti-Bush, anti-war and pro-Fidel.
The one thing I couldn't find is the article my sister sent me a few years back about his new home.
Seems that when he hit it big one of the first things the PC enviromentalist did was to build himself a beachfront house.
"PC for thee, but not for me."
Typical leftist.
