Just the opposite here (this is "retirement country" with tons of Q-Tip drivers)...You rarely see a handicap space empty.

I may have done some things in my youth that virtually made me blind. I wonder if I can also receive an exemption.

You obviously don't live in my area, then. Around here, the handicapped spaces are always in use.

Few things are as enraging as not being able to find a parking space, then seeing 15 huge, empty parking spaces right near the front door...of the gym.

Handicap parking permits are about as easy to get as a cold.
Many people who are not handicapped use these vehicles with these permits for the convenience they afford.
This is hardly obeying the spirit of the law.
The law should state and be enforced unless a handicapped person(s), the reason which this permit was issued is on board(and there are extenuating circumstances), the right to park in such areas should not be allowed, after all it isn't the vehicle that is handicapped.

That's my experience as well. Whoever devised the allocation formulas needs to be fired.
