January 16, 2004 -- Embattled Democratic front-runner Howard Dean yesterday vowed to tone down his aggressive attacks on rivals after a key ally warned that harsh words could cost him votes, with the battle for Iowa now in an unpredictable four-way tie. Dean also softened his image by sporting a comfy hunter-green sweater instead of his usual rolled-up-for-action shirtsleeves as he headed toward the Monday vote.

Nikita Dean can't be taken seriously if he looks as impulsive and embarrassing as Nikita Khruschev.

Dean, still trying to be who his advisors tell him to be rather than who he is. Maybe we could get him to hire Algore's old fashion advisor and put him in earth tones. Convince him he needs to be an alpha male and make his Napoleon complex blow up.

Heh. Ever notice how easy explosive words roll off the tongue when used conjunctively with the words "Howard Dean"?

Listening to Imus this morning.

Craig Crawford (MSNBC Political Analyst on the phone from Iowa) says that Dean has admitted to being treated for panic attacks and that he takes "stuff" to help him sleep. Crawford remarks that that is rather nonspecific coming from a doctor.

First I've heard or read any of this.

Also, Crawford says Clark makes too much eye contact with people and that DR. Phil says it is an indication that a person is a liar. (figures)

Shamelessly bumping my own Dean comments above. I have not seen or heard this anywhere?

Guess I'll have to wait to read it in the Washington Times or the NY Post.

It was in the People magazine interview. Someone posted excerpts last night. I will see if I can find the article.

There is a gross misrepresentation in Dean's list of excuses for his anxiety way back when. He states that he was concerned about the premature DEATH of his brother.

His brother's death was confirmed about one month ago when his remains were found.

The brother disappeared while touring Cambodia as a tourist during the Viet Nam war. He has been listed as missing all these years.

But after his staff set up a table with about 100 free "Dean for America" T-shirts in Fort Dodge, about 20 were left.

This is an indication of Absolutely Nothing!!.

There are hundreds of Iowans who collect campaign memorabilia and most of them have complete sets of Campaign T-shirts,, from EVERY candidate.

The Press and the Candidates STILL don't get it!

Wow! Reminds me of McGovern's running mate in 72, Thomas Eggleton.

Looks like Dean's opponents are smokin' him like a cheap cigar.

Dean was the one who talked about this to People magazine. He shot himself in the foot. But maybe the folks who read People think that's a good quality for a C-in-C. Sigh.

Craig Crawford defined Dean this morning as someone who throws landmines in front of himself so he could step on 'em.
