CORE to Hold Teach-In, Demand End to 'Eco-Imperialism'; Co-Founder of Greenpeace to Denounce His Former Colleagues

1/15/04 6:27:00 PM

To: City, International and Assignment Desks, Daybook Editor, Environment Reporter

Contact: Cyril Boynes, Jr. of the Congress of Racial Equality, 212-598-4000

News Advisory:

The Congress of Racial Equality, one of America's premier civil rights groups, will convene a teach-in on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, to condemn the global green movement's oppression of poor people in the Third World. "The environmental movement I helped found has lost its objectivity, morality and humanity," declares Greenpeace co- founder and panelist Dr. Patrick Moore. "The pain and suffering it is inflicting on families in developing countries must no longer be tolerated."

"The movement imposes the views of mostly wealthy, comfortable Americans and Europeans on mostly poor, desperate Africans, Asians and Latin Americans," says CORE national spokesman Niger Innis. "It violates their most basic human rights."

"CORE will lay down the gauntlet," says Innis. "Eco-imperialism may not be a household word yet, but it will be after this conference, the first one of its kind." Eight experts from around the world will demonstrate how environmental extremists deny destitute nations electricity, and worsen the poverty, malaria, malnutrition, TB and dysentery that kill their people. "This eco- manslaughter must end."

Every year, malaria makes 200 million people so sick that they cannot work, go to school, tend their fields or care for their families. Most of the cases are in sub-Saharan Africa, leaving that region one of the most destitute on earth. Two million people a year die - half of them children. A major reason for the malaria epidemic is a near-total ban on DDT, promoted by radical greens and the World Health Organization.

The average European cow gets a $250-a-year subsidy. Meanwhile, a billion people struggle to survive on just $200 a year. More than 2 billion have no electricity or running water, and none of the basic necessities and conveniences Americans take for granted, because of ideological opposition to energy and economic development in the Third World.

"We must put humanity back into the environmental debate," says Innis. "We all want to protect our planet. But we must stop trying to protect it from bogus or illusory threats - and on the backs, and the graves, of the world's most powerless and impoverished people."

WHAT: Eco-Imperialism: The global green movement's war on the developing world's poor

WHEN: Tuesday, Jan. 20 - 1 to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Conference Room D, Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, 53rd Street & 7th Avenue

WHO: Roger Bate, Africa Fighting Malaria, UK; Cyril Boynes, Jr., CORE, USA; Paul Driessen, author of Eco-Imperialism: Green Power - Black Death, USA; Niger Innis, CORE, USA; Fiona Kobusingye, businesswoman, Uganda; Patrick Moore, Greenspirit, Canada; Deroy Murdock, Atlas Foundation, USA; CS Prakash, Tuskegee University, USA and India.

After the teach-in, journalists and other attendees can meet and interview the experts, who will also be available for radio, TV and print interviews during their NYC stay.

It's fun to see left-wing radical extremists go after each other's throat in their own greed and corruption.

Sorry, can't make it....

Gotta go chop down a tree for firewood and then haul from my rich neighbor's cattle ranch on a trailer attached to my 1989 Ford Econoline with the areodynamic box-shaped body and fuel-efficient 351 Windsor.

Oh, yeah, this is all on virgin Kansas pararie.

Lucky for me it'll be about 45 degrees out. I sure am glad that this January weather is tolerable!

Patric Moore is not a left wing radical, by any means. At one time, most prominent environmentalists were SCIENTISTS who sought solutions...not the destruction of the corporate world.

Moore got out when the nuts took over and went to work with the corporations who want to be "good stewards" of the environment while still making a profit, supplying jobs, and supporting the growth of civilization rather then pushing for man to go back to the days of hunter/gathers.

Got to keep that oil turned over and everything moving...
let her sit to long and things might not work right next spring when you really need her...

That's what I tell my wife.. she "Humphs", shakes her finger and threatens me with prolonged and painful death if I track any of that "muck" in "her" kitchen.

And then brings me a refill of coffee. :^)

I agree completely. In the Green's effort to hault the thrust of capitalism, they have intentionally haulted the advancement of progress in these developing nations. When I see comfortably living Hollywood stars objecting to certain indigenous people from even walking through a dirt "pathway" I have to cringe. I actually remember a Fox special from years ago about stars like Sting and Ackroyd who were in the Amazon region teaching these people how to live a simple life so to not upset the eco-system. What a pretentious joke this was...as these "stars" who live with the greatest comforts the world has to offer, were telling these people living in poverty how to suck it up for the good of the environment.

to condemn the global green movement's oppression of poor people in the Third World.

Considering that last U.N. conference in South Africa where the attendees munched on caviar, foix gras and lobster while condemning the third world for wanting clean water, electricity, adequate food and decent shelter this would seem to be a worthy educational event.
