Nobody is supporting amnesty, and if you think so, your not paying attention to reality. Bush's plan fines people, and gives them workers permits. That is not amnesty, nor does it give them citizenship.

Those who's plan for illegal immigration is to machine-gun anyone coming across the border improperly love to couch the President's proposal as "amnesty," because that's what their rhetoric has been geared for for the past three years -- to oppose "amnesty." They'd rather call Bush's plan "amensty" than have to retool their talking points.
