Yeah, I was just adding on to my first post. Point is, there are several good conservatives who could run, and two (Frist, Owens) who almost certainly ARE running.

I will second that, and just hope that he is still on our side in the Judicial nominations.

I think the strongest ticket in 2008 would be a successful southern governor at the top, joined with a very articulate, well-respected California woman.

I think a ticket of Jeb Bush and Condi Rice would mop the floor with Hillary Clinton. Hillary! would sink like a brick in a well against that ticket, I believe.

I don't think that Hitlery, or any other woman for that matter, will be able to get a Presidential win in 2008.

No offense to women, but the country is not ready for it, and the election will go to whatever man is up against the woman, regardless of political party.

If I'm wrong, I'll leave the country, just like Alec Baldwin and Barbra Streisand did when Dubya was elected.

Seriously, if the GOP needs the "anti-Hillary" in 2008, there is no one better than LAURA INGRAHAM. I'm serious...She's bright, she's articulate, she's conservative, and she's gorgeous. If 2008's going to turn into a catfight, she's the obvious choice to battle Hillary.

It'd have to be a serious anti-Washington, anti-politician year to have a total outsider get in. Your assessment of Ms. Ingraham is correct but she has no experience in elected office or politics at the national level. Hillary! and the lamestream press will kill her over that. And besides, most of the press will hate her. Being conservative in the journalism/commentary business is almost treasonous in the eyes of the left-leaning media.

If Guliani runs, then I don't vote for a president, unless the Democrat is really bad. Even Hillary might not be bad enough to make me vote for Rudy Guliani.

We almost agree but for one little change. I would have Cheney decline 2004 and Bush ask Guiliani to run for V.P. Then in 2008, Guiliani picks Condi Rice to run as his V.P. The two of them would really kick butt and it would give Ms. Rice a little more experience. The Clintons could retire to that Library/old folks home they are building in Arkansas, never to be heard from again.

I thought you all might be interested in this thread, in which FReepers speculate on who will be the GOP presidential candidate in 2008.

Here are my two cents:

First choice: Governor Jeb Bush of Florida. I know, he's the President's brother, and has said he's not interested in becoming president, but he's still my first choice. Solid conservative across the board, has proven he can get Democrat votes, is very popular with Hispanics (partly because he speaks unaccented Spanish and his wife is Mexican), and *he's from Florida*.

Second choice: Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania. Won elections in two heavily Democrat congressional districts in Pittsburgh (he had to go through redistricting in between) and then won two Senate elections in Pennsylvania, a state Democrats need to carry if they hope to win the presidency. He has won solid support from blue-collar Democrats not by hiding from his conservative record, but by emphasizing it, and has been the loudest and most effective voice in the Senate in favor of the unborn. I would say that a Jeb Bush-Rick Santorum ticket would be ideal, except that they're both Catholics (Jeb converted years ago), and having two Catholics on the ticket may not fly in some areas.

Third choice: Governor Bill Owens of Colorado. I like his record so far in Colorado, although I'm not certain he's charismatic enough to win a presidential election.

Possible VP choice: Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. Pro-life, anti-tax conservative who managed to (i) get elected governor in traditionally überDemocrat Minnesota and (ii) staring down the RAT-controlled state senate and balancing the budget without raising taxes. While I don't like his position on prescription drug importation, and he needs a longer track record to know that he's for real, he's someone who could well make a good running mate in 2008.

For the record, Rudy Giuliani and Condi Rice are both pro-choice on abortion and in favor of affirmative action. While I think Rudy would make a fine U.S. Senator from New York or Secretary of Homeland Security, and Condi would make a fine U.S. Senator from California or Secretary of State, the Republican Party should not nominate a presidential or VP candidate who does not agree with the basic principles on which our Party was founded.
