I didn't realise at the time that their ideology really didn't come from anything more than the profound self regard of the two year old wishing to control everything but itself. That reminds me of a fantastic science fiction story I read a long time ago about a very young child who possessed almost godlike psychosomatic powers. I wish I could remember the name of it, or the author, but it was very illustrative of the "two year old wishing to control everything but itself" concept you mentioned.
There's also the classic Twilight Zone episode with 6-year old Bill Mumy who could "wish people into the cornfield" (never to be seen again) if they annoyed him. He wished a lot of people into the corn field and the entire town was terrified of him. He had no concern for others, and there was nothing that could limit his murderous actions.
I'm not sure it was intended as a parable of Baby Boomers/Leftists but I took it that way.
