Regional accents have faded big time in the past 20 years. Teenagers across the country almost sound alike. Edwards accent is as rare as the old Brooklyn accent, for example, nowadays.

So even if Mr. Dean wins with something like these numbers, his competitors will immediately start saying, "Seventy-five percent of our party did not vote for Howard Dean."And it will also be true that greater than 75% did not vote for any one of them individually, but that will not stop them (which is good - I'm looking forward to more Democrat-bashing-Democrat before it's over).

"We don't think any of these others have a chance to win because Bush is so strong, but the truth is that you never know. I wish Zell Miller were the Dem choice. Then I wouldn't fear for the nation, if the dems were to pull one out of the hat."
Zell would be okay, in my book.

The other thing to keep in mind is that some of the Deanies will, IMO, bolt to the Green Party if their guy is beaten. The chance increases if the eventual nominee voted to authorize the use of force against Iraq. It becomes a virtual certainty if the winner wins by what are seen as backroom tactics.

I propose an amendment to
The Ann Coulter Rule, to apply to all Peggy Noonan threads...

Peggy's article also makes me wonder if something else isn't also operating in the media. I've wondered the last several years how much backdoor influence Clinton has with them; I don't have an answer to that question. But they do like him and seem to support Hillary for president whenever she chooses to run. Dean would take over the leadership of the DNC and would help rout some of the Clinton influence there. It seems to me that they are lining up to help clear the way for Hillary's eventual trip to the WH.

No, no, no, no. Dean has to live for at least a couple more weeks. Then the party can dump him, because he'll have enough support to become a third party candidate and ensure that Bush carries every state. Never fear. If Dean loses the nomination, Nadir will run, and get a couple percent. Maybe he and Dean will run together. They could get the five percent needed to get matching funds in 2008.

They know the true drama of life is being replayed elsewhere, whereas when they were 28 they thought the Iowa outcome really was the drama of life. That's what reading too much Teddy White will get you. ZINGGGGGGG!
Thanks for the ping.

"I laughed when I heard this because it's true." - Peggy Noonan.
"It's funny 'cause it's true." - Homer J. Simpson.
Hmmm...I've never seen them together....
