Great, our new puppy is a husky/German Shepherd mix, with a little border collie thrown in. He has fangs like Dracula.

Huskies require a strong "Alpha" owner.

We owned a VERY large male German Shepherd and a Rot.....
The Rot was a baby....he was terrified of the two teacup Shih Tzu's we also have....just a lovable big dog...
The Shepherd was the most agressive dog I've ever seen. With the family he was great but would not socialize with other dogs or people. He had to be put away within a double fenced area 6' ft. in my back yard whenever anyone would come over the house.
Distrustful of strangers is a natural trait for Shepherds but this dog took it to a new level. He died this past year at 5 1/2 years old due to his large size (142 lbs and could put his paws on my shoulders, I'm 6' and look me directly in the eyes).

The list may be crapola. We had a Doberman, and she was the sweetest and most loving dog ever. We received her from an abusive situation and after we had her for four years she was tested and approved to be a therapy dog at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Some dogs are indeed dangerous, but they are few and far between. Dogs are God's most loving creatures.

I bet he'll be a great dog. We have had a German Shepherd/Collie mix for over ten years now and she's been a really good dog although a bit like a werewolf at first. But we're able to walk her without the lease, something I could never do with our old dog which was a retreiver mix. But I think you're in pretty good shape when you stay with the mongrels instead of the pure breeds.

Must be related to my Chow/Lab mix. I swear she could suck the filling out of a ding dong with those things. :-)

We use the mild abrasive coated chew bones for our German Shepard. Keeps those chops razor sharp. Throw a football at my dog, is like a balloon hitting a dart.

I have an 8 year old Sheppard/Malamute mix. Outstanding dog. It's interesting that Huskies and Mals are on this list since they are considered to be useless as guard/watch dogs. They tend to like strangers as much as anyone else. The sheppards are a different case.
IMO, the sheppard and Huskie/Mal mix is very complementary. I don't think I'll own a different bread.
Pros: Love People (just socialize them), Don't Bark Much, Make strange "talking" sounds when trying to get your attention, look like wolfs...so they'll scare the crap out of strangers, and they don't shed as much as you might think..except spring and fall...then it's freakin' amazing. Ours is an extreamly inteligent, and willful, dog.
Cons: Love to wonder, need about 3 miles of "patroling" per day otherwise they get restless, Watch them with younger kids..they are a pack animal and need to know where they in the chain of command, and they can be hell on other animals. They need to be socialized. They are very inteligent, but not always easy to train since they are so stubborn. (the Shepard mix helps this a bit, but be patient, and consistent) They have a mind of their own, and the will to use it.
Just get ready for some brushing!

I have a german shepard husky mix... He is a very affectionate loving 3 year old dog. I got him from the local pound although we did have some teeth baring when we put our foot down and he realized we were the alpha (as you need to with huskies) He does not do that anymore. this dog can pick up a bird or small kitten and carry it without hurting it. I am quite suprised to see his breeds on the list of dangerous dogs but I know that with love almost any dog can be well natured. He really does not like strangers which I guess is the shepard part since hubby is in Iraq that is good for me :)
