Coulter's Paradigm, Conservative Paralysis

As we prepare for the 2004 presidential election, the Conservative Movement is beset by a self-identity crisis. Neocons and paleocons war against one another while liberty lovers fight cultural conservatives. These conflicts are the proverbial icebergs tip. Of far greater import than policy positions and talking points is the very nature and character of the Conservative Movement.
Before the Conservative Movement can adequately address where it is headed it must first rediscover its self-identity. Otherwise its present paralysis will lead to its demise.

It's another slam piece on Coulter. What makes this one unique, however, is that it's written by the President of Citizens for Principled Conservatism, a self-proclaimed "conservative Christian".

I implore you to follow the lead of John Leo, et. al. and renounce the extremist views of Ann CoulterI do not "renounce" them. Instead, I celebrate them. I've no interest in sharing a "Big Tent" with socialists, traitors, secularists, and abortionists. Let Borcher try to torture Ann into an "extremist." To paraphrase Ben Franklin: "If this is extremism, let Ann Coulter make the most of it!"

The unspoken third rail of Conservatism is the mainstreaming of extremism within the movement. Right-wing hatred erupted during the Clinton era and a new generation of conservatives now finds it fashionable to hate.
A
Classic example of leftists accusing conservatives of what the leftists themselves are up to.

Eh, he's basically spot on.
People need to get over their giant hard-ons for Coulter.
Of course, suggest that Coulter is not perfect in any way on FR will bring down a massive torrent of flame.
Basically Coulterism is an attempt to turn conservatism into a mirror image of the Left; basically, to be as extreme and stupid as the Left is, in the opposite direction.
A heck of a lot of Coulterism has infiltrated FR, just in terms of the idea that everyone that disagrees with you in any way is pure evil, total rejection of objective analysis of anything, etc.

The point is Coulter ACTUALLY IS doing what the leftists themselves are up to.
A lot of people find that exhilarating. There's a certain liberating fun proclaiming everyone with the slightest variance from your opinions a "traitor."
However, it's profoundly stupid and left unchecked will flush conservatism down the toilet.

Conservatives are paralyzed because :
1) They lack a leader who will take the courage to organize a movement to stand up and ridicule this corrupt hypocrite , false Christian liberal President and Democrats who are selling our country and the needs of it's citizens to criminal illegal aliens for votes .
According to an Arizona Republican Congressman , the
10 million illegal aliens in the U.S. have broken four Federal laws to get here :
a. Crossed here illegally
b.Work here illegally
c.Carry fraudulent /false documents ( document fraud )
d.Tax fraud , and Bush endorses this criminal invasion of the U.S.

"There's a certain liberating fun proclaiming everyone with the slightest variance from your opinions a "traitor."" - yes, a turnabout of the 'racist' card that has done wonders at deflating the leftist's monopoly on shame.
I wouldnt call it liberating. But it is sometimes necessary to fight Lefties on their own terms and in ways that actually gets them 'stopping' their games. ...
BTW I've run into this guy via email... sorry, he's got some giant chip on his shoulder.
Nobody's perfect - not Coulter, not him.

It is noteworthy that the dislike of Coulter is entirely fact free. Besides attempted guilt by association with people she is not associated with, an entirely baseless charge of racism straight out of nowhere, and quotes from rival conservative pundits who don't like Coulter's take on McCarthy (because they made their own reputations taking different stands on him), he hasn't anything substantive to say against her.
She promotes "hate" - by calling liberals traitors. That is the entire substance of the charge. Leftists shall not be called traitors, even when they commit treason, or defend those who do. He is in fact just another example of those who can't stand spades being called spades because they have lived so long in kultursmog they think the polite lies of Georgetown cocktail parties must be true.
Coulter is a national treasure. She is an asset to the conservative movement. She is profoundly entertaining and refreshing. She drives liberals to amusing forms of insanity. She is not an extremist. Working for Stalin, apologizing for Pol Pot, worshipping Castro - those are extremist things to do. The left has been doing them for decades. All she has done is point it out and call it what it is.

I suggest you read "Treason" before critiquing it. It contains well-documented evidence on how the Left enabled the Soviet Union during the Cold War. We shouldn't be afraid to call a spade, a spade. BTW, had you read the book, you would know Coulter doesn't accuse every Democrat of treason. But I suppose it's easier to hurl unfounded accusations, much like you were accusing Coulter of doing.

Perhaps you will advance beyond juvenille criticism, cite specific opinion pieces of Coulter's that you disagree with, and elevate your discourse. I didn't come here to talk about "hard-ons"- perhaps you have the wrong site. Get specific or get lost.

I didn't write the thing. I just thought it was interesting a conservative was slamming Coulter. You don't see that very often. There are several other editorials this guy has done on Coulter there, too.
To: John H K
I respect your posts and opinion but this one is a little on the bombastic side with regards to Coulter. Conservatives have been greatly in need of more ballsy representatives who are not PC.
I think she's great, but as I said, I respect your opinion on her, because anyone that outspoken will always go a little overboard now and again ;) I'll admit.

It's a hit piece, and not without its own, heavy bias (and self-importance, quite frankly) but he's got some good points in there.
I do not, however, feel that conservatism is in danger of being destroyed by her. It takes a lot of people to kill and idea or subvert it.
But you're right - people really DO need to get over her: all she's really doing is being a class clown.
