Supply side economics holds that increased taxation steadily reduces economic trade between economic participants within a nation. Taxes act as a type of trade barrier that causes economic participants to revert to less efficient means of satisfying their needs. As such higher taxation leads to lower economic efficiency.

"Tax cuts that increase incentives to produce and that eliminate distortions in the price system -- supply-side tax cuts -- give a double whammy. They restrain government spending and increase future income and current wealth. Permanent tax cuts are much to be preferred to temporary cuts. They are a stronger restraint on spending and do not need to be repeated." Milton Friedman

In other words while tax cuts may in the short run increase deficitits, in the long run they have affect a restraint on government spending, deficits.

Ronald Reagans fiscal policies were supply side while his monetary policy was based in Friedmans monetarism. I believ Mr Firedman moderated his views on monetarism in the last several years but I am unsure how or when. I am interested though now that we've had this discussion.

"THE WAR ON TERROR AND IT'S CONTINUATION IS THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN!"

Ooh, good argument. Who can argue when you wave the flag?

But it's a non-answer answer. You called his response "Rubbish." You said nothing to back it up or dispute it.

I actually take quite a bit of heat for supporting the war in Iraq, but I believe that it is the one area that Bush has done right. I just have trouble overlooking the war on our wallets and our rights.

Should we all just forget about that? You know that it is easy enough to have a constant state of war that would require our rights to be restricted, don't you? You may be comfortable with that. I'm not.

If that is the sum of "supply-side" economics, then one could go home right after their 10th grade lesson on supply and demand. As such, I don't see supply-side as being a true school of thought, it is simply affirming the laws of supply and demand. I will take issue with the good Dr. Friedman in that low taxes restrain govt spending. In my time, I have seen little evidence that deficits cause restraint on politicians. When I was in school, Dr. Friedman was very much a hero, and the particular school I attended was one that heavily favored monetarism and the Rational-Expectations model, so I have always thought of Friedman as being a monetarist.

Monetarism sprung forth from Friedman's 1956 restatement of the quantity theory of money. I would think he knows a tad more about it than you and I. Me for sure since I wera a blue collar.

"What rights have you lost since we started killing jihadists?"

The same ones as you. Coincidental to the war, but lost just the same. Don't you remember how the whole gang in Washinton teamed up to make it illegal to talk about them before elections. The very reason for the first amendment was stripped from us like candy from a baby.

Some people think that it was great 'strategery'. Those of us who don't have the taste of shoe polish on our breath think that it's an abomination.

And if you don't think that a $400 Billion (and sure to grow larger) chunk taken out of our wallets doesn't restrict our rights and freedom, you have a strange view of freedom.

These things are not directly related to the war, but because so many are willing to cede my freedom for their 'safety', who knows what else will be taken from us.

What rights have YOU lost recently?

And just WHO are you taking heat from in your support of the war in Iraq?

Sounds to me like you're either a democrat or hanging out with them.

I have no respect for anyone who would vote against President Bush. NONE.

Agreed, they have nothing to do with the war so evidently the answer to the question I posed to you was answered by constructing a strawman argument.

As far as the strawman goes, I agree, CFR is unconstitutional and profligate spending unrelated to defense is extra constitutuional.

"What rights have YOU lost recently?"

I answered this above. Go look it up.

"And just WHO are you taking heat from in your support of the war in Iraq?

My more constitutionalist minded friends who believe that going to war without a formal declaration of war is a violation of the Constitution.

"Sounds to me like you're either a democrat or hanging out with them."

LOL Go back and read my posts over the past 3 years. I don't think that the dems want me.

"I have no respect for anyone who would vote against President Bush. NONE."

I'm so glad that my self esteem doesn't depend on who you respect. But while we're on the subject, I have no respect for anyone who takes an oath to defend the Constitution and then does everything to trash it like your demi god Bush, or the sycophants who worship him.

I apologize. No strawman intended so let's just burn him right now. I've been going with only a few hours sleep per night for the past week and I confused the context because we each mentioned 'war'.

I don't like some of the things that have been done in the name of fighting terorism, but as yet there are no documented cases of rights being stripped away although the groundwork is being laid for a future despot.

When I mentioned the "war on our wallets and rights", I was referring to the separate issue of increased spending and the violation of the 1st Amendment (amongst others). Two separate wars (or maybe not) running side by side. No wonder I get confused.

I love how people spout this intellectual honesty bullshit in trying to win an argument.

Intellectual honesty be god damned. He's no conservative, he's not supportive of MY values as a Voter. I've done the math and have come to the conclusion that I WILL NOT have my vote taken advantage of by an individual who will NOT support MY values as a voter. This is not a one issue vote, if it were just one issue then I would be voting for the man in November.

Get the assholes at the RNC to start acting like Conservatives. Get the jerks in the house and the Senate along with the White House to act like conservatives instead of increasing the size of government at every single solitary opportunity and THEN I will probably vote again in November.

Until that time comes the RNC, the Republican in the White House and all the rest of their supporters and nay sayers can kiss my ass.

So your "constitutionalist minded" friends believe that? LOL!

Get new friends.

Despite what your genius friends tell you.....
Any intelligent person knows that the President does NOT need a formal declaration of war from Congress before going to war.

In any case, Congress gave it's full support to the President. REMEMBER?

I have neither the time nor the desire to read your posts over the last 3 years. The current ones are hard enough to get through.

Bush is not my demi god, just a great President who deserves to get re-elected and will... with or without your support.

This is the real world....sometimes we have to make concessions. Sometimes we have to support a candidate even though we don't agree with them 100% of the time.

Remember 9/11 and ask yourself who you want in charge over the next 4 years. If your answer is not George W. Bush,
then instead of politics, take up knitting for a hobby.

"He's no conservative, he's not supportive of MY values as a Voter."

You don't value banning abortion methods, cutting taxes, killing leftist treaties like the Kyoto Global Warming nonsense, and building our national missile defenses??

Presidency of George W. Bush -- the first 35 months

Banned Partial Birth Abortion

Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy

Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty

Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court

Killed Clinton's CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California.

Killed Clinton's "ergonomic" rules that OSHA was about to implement; rules that would have shut down every home business in America.

Killed the U.S. - CCCP ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses

Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first ten ABM silos in Alaska so that America has a defense against North Korean nukes

Pushed through THREE raises for our military.

Increased Defense Dept funding which had deteriorated during the previous 8 years

Stopped foreign aid that would be used to fund abortions.

Supported and upheld the ban on abortions at military hospitals

Signed E.O. reversing Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act

Signed TWO bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit

Currently pushing for full immunity from lawsuits for our national gun manufacturers

Ordered Attorney-General Ashcroft to formally notify the Supreme Court that the OFFICIAL U.S. government position on the 2nd Amendment is that it supports INDIVIDUAL rights to own firearms, NOT a leftist-imagined *collective* right

Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control (i.e. the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty)

Disarmed Libya of its Chemical, Nuclear, and biological WMD's without bribes or bloodshed

Successfully executed 2 wars: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom

Executed a WAR ON TERROR by getting world-wide cooperation to track funds/terrorists (has cut off much of the terrorist's funding and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network)

Brought back our EP-3 intel plane and crew from China without any bribes or bloodshed

Started withdrawing our troops from Bosnia and has announced withdrawal of our troops from Germany and the Korean DMZ.

Signed the LARGEST nuclear arms reduction in world history with Russia

Initiated comprehensive review of our military, which was completed just prior to 9/11/01, accurately reported that ASYMMETRICAL WARFARE was critical.

Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the Presidency

Reorganized bureaucracy...after 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency: the Department of Homeland Security.

Initiated discussion on privatizing Social Security and individual investment accounts.

Improving govt. efficiency with .8 million jobs put up for bid...weakening unions and cutting undeserved pay raises. Wants merit based promotions/raises only.

Orchestrated Republican control of the White House, the House AND the Senate.

Killed the liberal ABA's role in vetting federal judges for Congress.

GWB signed an executive order enforcing the Supreme Court's Beck decision (re: union dues being used for political campaigns against individual's wishes)

Turned around an inherited economy that was in recession.

Passed tough new laws to hold corporate criminals to account as a result of corporate scandals.

Signed 2 income tax cuts ---- 1 of which was the largest Dollar value tax cut in world history

Reduced taxes on dividends and capital gains

In process of eliminating IRS marriage penalty.

Increased small business incentives to expand and to hire new people

Signed into law the No Child Left Behind legislation delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations)

Reorganized the INS in an attempt to safeguard the borders and ports of America and to eliminate bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability.

Signed trade promotion authority

Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men and women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa

Passed Medicare Reform (authorized $39.5 Billion per year for preventive medicine such as drugs and doctor visits as well as included a ten year Privatization option)

Urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits

Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims

Submitted comprehensive Energy Plan--awaits Congressional action (works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc.)

Endorses and promotes The Responsibility Era ("In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else -- to one in which every single American understands that he or she are responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself. " -----this quote was too good to leave out)

Started the USA Freedom Corps

Initiated review of all federal agencies with a goal to eliminate federal jobs (completed September 2003) in an effort to reduce the size of federal gov while increasing private sector jobs.

Part of coalition (Russia, Israel, EU, Palestine, USA) for Israeli/Palestinian "Roadmap to Peace"

Challenged the United Nations to live up to their responsibilities and not become The League of Nations ( in other words, completely irrelevant)

Nominated strong, conservative judges to the judiciary.

Changed parts of the Forestry Management Act to allow necessary clean-up of the national forests in order to reduce fire danger.

As part of the national forests clean-up, the President restricted judicial challenges (based on the Endangered Species Act and other challenges) and removed the need for an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) before removing fuels/logging to reduce fire danger.

Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops.

President Bush signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal Aliens
S. 1685, the Basic Pilot Extension Act of 2003, was signed by President Bush on December 3, 2003.
It extends for five years the workplace employment eligibility authorization pilot programs created in 1996. It expands the pilot programs from the original five states to all 50 states.

The wise course of action is to get out in front of the problem instead of wallowing in existing failures. Bush, on balance, is a failure. I am looking for a better choice in 2008. 2004 is a lost cause.

I won't vote for Bush in 2004; I'll just leave that part of the ballot blank. I will punch the rest of my ballot. I will work hard to get conservative legislators elected and re-elected this time round (I have made donations and have offered to assist in House seat camapign). I believe it is a higher prority at this point to get six to eight more Republican senators elected than to worry about whether Bush will make it.

While the rest of you continue to enable Bush in his Clinton impersonation, others of us will work hard to get a goood conservative Republican candidate ready for a presidential run in 2008.

Bravo, Kevin. Well done. Get you off the drug issue and you aren't half bad.

Howard Dean/John Kerry/Dick Gephardt/John Edwards. That's actually four reasons.

One of these days you self-described Libertarians are actually going to get around to reading the LP's platform. Then you'll be in for a surprise:

"Immigration

We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new "Berlin Wall" which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government's policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age, or sexual preference.

We therefore call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons."
