Beauty Spot Awaits Sewage Arlington to Transform Waste Treatment Plant By Annie Gowen Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, January 11, 2004; Page C05
The Arlington County Board approved plans yesterday for a $2 million to $3 million beautification effort for its sewage treatment plant that the board hopes will transform it into an urban oasis, complete with rain gardens, verdant trellises, an environmental education center and a picnic ground.
The improvements are part of a $250 million upgrade to the facility on South Glebe Road that was built in 1933 and needs more capacity and environmental upgrades. The project will be funded by utility rate increases.
"We hope to get people to visit the site itself," said environmental artist Mary Miss, who presented her plan to the board yesterday. "We hope to get people to focus on the things that are there and celebrate them."

And they say we need more money for state "essentials." Virginians -- and Arligtonians - better get serious.
BTW -- Former County Board Chairman Ferguson, who voted for this, ridiculed his opponents this past election and said that the County had "no plans" for this project. He even said the lie had been repeated so many times, that it was picked-up by an Israeli newspaper. According to Fergy, "If you say it enough times, it becomes true."
Looks like it became true when he and his buddies voted for this, unanimously!
The whole damned neighborhood needs an upgrade first. Anything less would be like putting lipstick on a pig.

Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from this list.
I don't get offended if you want to be removed.
,,, everything has to celebrated, doesn't it? What about appreciated? PC language is enough to cause a need of extra capacity in all sewerage treatment plants.
Exactly. There ain't nothing beautiful about South Glebe Road.
And it's high-time you celebrated it!
