City to retract release calling Free Republic a 'hate group.'

Fresno will pay $60,000 to conservative online forum Free Republic and retract a news release that called the organization a "hate group," according to a settlement agreement released Monday. Free Republic founder Jim Robinson, who lives in Fresno, said he wouldn't have filed the suit if the city had acknowledged its error.

"I think it's unfortunate the city did not retract and apologize immediately after they knew they were in the wrong," Robinson said.

City Attorney Hilda Cantu Montoy said the lawsuit was settled to "avoid the expense and burden of litigation."

"It's not in any way admitting any liability by any party," Montoy said.

I was disgusted by the comments made by that city attorney in yesterday's newspaper. She said basically that they were not admitting anything untoward happened. She made it look like they were not about to apologize or issue a retraction or anything. If this is a breach of the agreement, they need to be called to task. Sheeeeeesh! What arrogant creeps! Obviously, they know they were wrong or else they would not have settled. And I didn't appreciate their statements about how it's better/cheaper to pay people off than to go to court. We had a valid grievance. We were hurt and slandered. We got justice, I guess, but now they're breaking their word and trying to cover their sorry butts. Sheeeeeesh! You can't have it both ways. We were wronged. Period.

Bottom line is that the City of Fresno needs to be careful who they allow to speak for them. Deb Reyes should have been fired, rather than allowed to step down gracefully.

Come on, you know it takes along time to count out $20 worth on nickels. They have to empty out the parking meters, count the nickels ( that is probably a major problem for them) and roll up the nickels. All this is after they have a council meeting and vote on who is to roll the nickels.LOL
