Take the poll: Should senior citizens face more stringent screening when purchasing firearms?
Although the reporter puts the usual gun grabber spin on the story, such as; "For example gun-owning senior, like any age group, are at risk for having their weapons used against them."....
The last sentence says it all as far as I am concerned.
In the end, "the best insurance seniors can have against violent crime is a well-armed citizenry," says Van Vibber, gripping his pistol. "Besides, it's a God-given right."

Older people, women, minorities, handicapped people, lesbians, homosexuals, transexuals, hookers, etc who might be esp. prey to crime or violence should carry guns, and should fully support the Right to Bear Arms. The more Americans who recognize that guns are effective self defense tools and who want to keep guns being legal, the better.

Well, I gotta be consistent here. I want seniors to be forced to take a road test once a year for driving. Same should be for weapon safety. I don't want grandma starting to go senile and taking out the crossing guard that looked funny to her.

oh, it's socialism to not trust the seniors.
Well, here in California, we had a grandpa who is in his 80's, who is just being charged with 10 counts of vehicular manslaughter.
His family was trying to get his driving liscence revoked. They couldn't. But another accident would. He got in a fender bender, knew his liscence was a goner, fled, and in a panic, mowed down 10 to their deaths, and injured 69 at a farmer's market.
It's socialism though, to make sure those with fewer brain cells left, and slower reflexes know what they are doing.

It's almost funny how this author tries to scare the reader about Grandpa owning a gun. Somehow, no one can put the numbers together supporting the threat these seniors pose to society.
Also, isn't it strange that middle aged folks of 20+ years ago who comprised the demographic of "most armed" are now the seniors being mentioned here as the "most armed" segment of society? DUH!
Well, it's pretty clear to me that there will be blood in the streets as these demented, armed, altzheimered folks continue to arm themselves. I will no longer look at a punk thug the same.
If we want to make the world safer concerning what seniors do with their time and money, we need to screen their DRIVING privilages, not their RIGHT to protect themselves.

Not in that category yet, but I'm a boomer and based on the two (at least) previous threads where Xers and their cophorts espouse euthanasia of Boomers as the solution to the coming SS crisis, I think it's prudent that this grey-haired gun-owner stat get out.

As a senior who is not senile (not all seniors are senile)
God what insults that I would NOT have expected from fellow Republicans.
I would have expected a thread like this on the Dims forums.
Seniors have every right that other Americans have.
And these comments are rude and thoughtless.
What would your grandparents and parents think about these comments? I am sure as a Republican you all would have been raised to be more compassionate.

wtc911 is on your side. He and I are next in line to be the seniors that some want to disarm, and/or euphanize.

With the kind of rehabilitation going on in most prisons...you get rapists murderers and those given to making a living by armed robbery and assault...They lift weights half the day and the other half practice disarming cops and assaulting each other or perfecting their trade and proclivities in other ways...
The elderly are perfect victims...as predators have always gone after the old, weak and most defenseless...
Naturally a gun levels the playing field...which is why govt. doesn't want sheep to own, carry or use them...

"oh, it's socialism to not trust the seniors. " Do not try to change the subject. In this country all citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. It is not your place to decide which of our citizens rights are protected by the Constitution.
If enough people were to display the same attitudes that you expressed in your posts to this thread, we would soon choose up sides and begin to eliminate the rights of those not in our group. Then you would be forced to make a decision to support and defend the Constitution, or to be in the group who are choosing to eliminate our protected rights.
I suspect you already know which of the two groups I am in.

This country is going to be in big trouble once the old-timers that still remember a Free country, die off from old age.

I see that used all the time, both in the press and in arguments by Liberals, but no one seems to have any statistics on it, it's just an article of faith.

"You need to be able to protect yourself, because the police are not always able to protect you at any moment," he says.Ah, but it's not their job to protect you...it's YOUR job to protect yourself until THEY arrive. That's why you can't sue the Police Dept. for not getting to you in "time".

A pistol's sharp report pierces the morning calm, as Charles Van Vibber lowers his Glock automatic. Hmmm... Where can I get me a Glock automatic? :-)

Right on!
And we respect you for your service to our Country!
