After reading this article, I'm more happy than ever that I was raised in home without American race based drama. My mom was shocked that interracial marriage was illegal when she first came to this country 1963. She's a West Indian creole woman herself, and my father is Italian. The only reason why black-white is such an issue is because of the past history between the two groups in this country. Either way, race was NEVER brought up in this home because I had two parents who had better things to do.

Same here, and further, not ONE of us six children married another WASP. I have Black, Cherokee, Jewish, and Hispanic relatives as well. It makes family get togethers interesting and often quite funny.

I think it is a generational thing. The older generations may have been appalled, and this is learned behavior...

..why such a powerful role model to black youth couldn't embrace his own race"

Tiger is part Asian, part white, part Native American, and part African-American.

When Fuzzy Zoeller made the stereotypical joke about blacks' eating habits in reference to Woods, the national media jumped on Zoeller. Tiger didn't involve himself in the issue.

When President Clinton extended an invitation to Woods to attend the Jackie Robinson tribute at Shea Stadium, Tiger refused, and it was reported Woods had nicer words for Zoeller than for President Clinton.

Bravo. I am married to a Jamaican woman and her take has always been that in Jamaica there are only two kinds of people: Jamaicans and tourists. Jamaicans come in all shades... West Indian, Black, Chinese, German, Jewish, Indian (India), English, Irish, et cetera. However, they are not (---)-Jamaican. They are JAMAICANS, period. She has problems with American Blacks because she says they whine too much (not all, of course)... Her feelings largely reflect my own. Though MOST of my ancestors came from the U.K. (some came on the first boat over, Mayflower; the rest came later, I'm sure), I am a NATIVE American, born and bred for many generations. At the same time, I welcome non-NATIVE Americans of ALL shades and hues to the country we share and love like no other. All I ask is that we all meld together to become ONE PEOPLE. United. Forget the hyphens. Learn what we can from the past then let it go. Honor and uphold our Constitution, fight tooth and nail to ensure that it is upheld as the Supreme law of the land and continues to always GUARANTEE (but not GRANT) our liberties as Americans, native and by-choice.

Tell your parents, Welcome to the United States... and thanks for your post.

Interracial dating was never illegal anywhere that I ever lived, I don't know where you mother lived.

Did you also note that all of the hateful bilge in the article came from the person on the LEFT? Yep, that's right, the so-called peace-loving, diversity-obsessed Ivory Tower Militants who often accuse those on the Right of being racists. I don't know how many times I'd come across a 'Sleeping With The (White Man)Enemy'-type article in Essence Magazine, or how so many 'Sisters' felt threatened by the mere presence of a White Woman. I finally had enough and cancelled my subscription years ago.

-Regards, T.
