WASHINGTON — In a variation on an old theme, a Hispanic supporter of Howard Dean called a Latina Republican Senate candidate a "house Mexican" who is not being true to her race.

Steven Ybarra, a Democratic National Committee (search) official and regional coordinator of Latinos for Dean (search), called Rosario Marin (search), the former U.S. treasurer under President Bush who is now seeking the GOP nomination to compete against California Sen. Barbara Boxer, a "house Mexican for the Republicans." The attack was sent out in a mass e-mail to political activists, community leaders and a number of journalists this week.

Unfortunately they can call each other what they want.

But I know where you’re coming from!

Even Hillary’s recent Gandhi comment was no biggie.

Everyone knows that conservatives are better and are held to a higher standard.

Rats can say anything they want and get away with it...Repub's can't...as simple as that.

It won't hurt to e-mail them. The Trent Lott/Strom Thurmond story went unnoticed for days, but was kept alive by online activists, and eventually picked up in the mainstream press. Maybe we can do the same with this story.

Why did you excerpt this article?

Why did you change the title (headline) of this story?

This will be a non-issue for the lamestream press.

Two in one week - you would think at least one of the dinosaurs would pick it up.

To give some context for those who might not have heard about the story...It hasn't been picked up by the mainstream press...Hence the "Freep CNN" headline.

Duh, don't you people get it...Dems always get a pass for their racist comments, because, they've "always worked hard for civil rights."

And this qualifies as an ethnic slur? Aren’t we a little over-sensitive?

Yes, I think it does. "House Mexican"? I think that certainly is a slur. I fear though that your response is indicative of why we are losing among the largest minority group in the country year after year. Judging by the response this thread has received, I am sure that this issue will die. It would be picked up if the conservative community would push it the way the libs did with Trent Lott. But, since this one involves a minority, it looks like we will be on the sidelines on this one. Sad, because it could have helped rally support for a Senate candidate in California who might have a chance to win and turn more Latinos into Republicans.
