WASHINGTON -- US officials have found evidence corroborating White House allegations that Russian companies sold Saddam Hussein high-tech military equipment that threatened US forces during the invasion of Iraq last March, a senior State Department official said yesterday.
The official said the United States has found proof that Russian companies exported night-vision goggles and radar-jamming equipment to Iraq, the official said. The evidence includes the equipment itself and proof that it was used during the war, according to the official. Such exports would violate the terms of United Nations sanctions against Iraq.

Umm, first, peoples here constantly slam anything from Russia, so arrogant??? Hah, nice double standard. Second, how is this statement stand on anything of Russian economic structure? Where does this statement make Russia to be Communist? Look at own trade partner China if looking for communists.
Because it's not about technical or military superiority of the USA over the USSR or vise versa. It's about what is nowadays Russia - a member of the civilised world or the same old adversary, the Empire of Evil under a slim disguise.
For me, the answer is clear, especially when I observe the overwhelming popularity in Russia of lingo in which the most tender word for Americans is "pindosy" (a crossbreed between "amerikos" - in its own right a derogatory slang - and "pidor", i.e. pederast, the utterly outrageous insult in Russia).
As I can see, for you the usage of Russian equipment, for $20 or $ 20 million, against the American war effort isn't a reason for concern, but for gloating... yeah right, you're a Russian Conservative.
So can I ask you what are you craving to conserve? Soviet propagandist cliches of anti-Americanism maybe?
Nothing new - Soviet laws were also "one of the world's most democratic". And the Soviet dwarf was one of the world's largest...
What's important is that the current dwarf occupying the Kremlin cannot be bothered to obey them. Exactly like his predecessors. That much everyone with a pinch of common sense could see during the last elections in Russia.
Where is US flat tax? Where is US flat tax of low 13%? Where is US cut in government? Russia cut government, even cut business registration to one window of one office. Where is US low corporate rate of tax? Where is US ban on sales tax? Where is US balanced government budget with positive government savings? Where is US tort reform? Where is US protective tarriffs to keep jobs from leaving? Where is US ban on abortions after 12 weeks? Did US even ban murder of late term abortions? Where in US Christian faith taught in school...oh that is right, Islam is now taught in US schools.
And by the way, US often block Russia and hamper Russia, why should Russia be expected to subjugate own needs to US? Putin elected to care of Russia not be lap dog of Bush. If two agree and work togather on soemthing then good, but don't expect English lapdog in Kremlin.
Example of this is Spring 2001 when Russia was on plan to bomb Taliban in retaliation for Chechin training and support...Bush did everything and used UN to stop Putin...interesting how littel fore thought might change things....only 5 month later.
It stands all right. During the classic Communist period all the economic assets belonged to the state, and the state itself belonged to the Communist Party, i.e to its leadership.
Now the Communist fat cats, their progeny and their henchmen own whatever has left to be owned openly.
That's how come that they replaced their garb from the Moscow apparel factory "Bolshevik" with that from Armani.
Nothing more substantial has changed...
Oops, I now see! As a conservative (mind you, a Russian one) you don't approve of the change. Well, please receive my condolences.
No, I don't side with ANYONE in Russia, Leftists or conservatives like yourself. And please, don't try to ascribe me statements for which you have ready counter arguments, it's a tired Agitprop trick.
This said, it doesn't change the hard fact that the elections in Russia where farce... the most recent ones, and all previous during the last 80 years. It's a stable pattern, as a conservative you should appreciate this.
No one here asserts that the US is perfect. There are lots of things to be done and lots of useful and necessary laws to be introduced. The difference with the USSR... er, Russia, anyway, same sh*t... is that the laws which do exist in America WORK.
It's a pile of crap, bro. They are the creation of the two Central Committees: of the Communist Party and of the Young Communist League (or Komsomol).
As a matter of fact, you cannot prevent yourself from revealing your true colours: to accuse Americans - or "pindosy" in your preferred lingo - for everything (Saddam's accession as well as Khodorkovski's, the global warming, and hard lot of the African tribes) was the very foundation of the Soviet propaganda.
Careful - you'll really piss 'em off.
Some folks have trouble understanding that the Soviet Union is no more, and that Russia is making great strides after a shaky start. I'm still angry at how the oligarchs stole such a huge mass of public resources, but things certainly seem headed in the right direction now.
As for Kyoto, it's you New Zealanders who support that stupidity...Russian drove final stake into that vampire your country run to jump on bandwagon off.
Your bigotry and stupidity astonishing...don't you have some goats or muslims to hug?
Absolutely. In the right for Russia direction, I'd add. Meaning the same well known direction to the full state/party control of media, economy and whatever, and unchecked personal power for the dwarf dwelling in the Kremlin.
Quite conservative, isn't it? Er, Russian Conservative...
Whose self interest do you expect them to be pursuing? Ours?
Capitalism appears to be alive and well there, with President Putin working hard to eliminate the mess left by Yeltsin and the oligarchic rapists.
I wouldn't say the Soviet Union was a rich country, yet it certainly had assets. Yet somehow, at the demise of the USSR, all those assets seemed to be concentrated in a very few undeserving hands.
If President Putin has to stick it to a few of those robbers, I say "Go for it." He doesn't appear to be enriching himself and his cronies as did Yeltsin. He has provided what appears to me to be excellent leadership for Russia - vastly better than the Soviet Union leaders, and even more vastly better than anyone since the USSR's demise.
