The police chief in Hollister, Missouri is suspended without pay after being charged with two counts of felony stealing.  George Stevens, 36, was arrested Thursday evening by the Missouri Highway Patrol following a month-long investigation into missing funds from the police department.

According to information from the Patrol's Drug and Crime Control unit, the investigation began December 16, 2003 at the request of the Hollister Police Department.  A total of $4,300 in cash bonds collected between June 3, 2003 and September 3, 2003 was missing. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that an additional $2,600 was missing from the police department.

Taney County Prosecutor Rodney Daniels said two counts of stealing were filed against Stevens and his bond was set at $20,000.  Stevens posted bond Thursday and was released from the Taney County Jail after being arraigned on the charges.  A reappearance hearing is scheduled for January 26.

Hollister Mayor David Tate suspended Stevens Thursday without pay, pending the outcome of the criminal case.  Police department Captain Ed Ripley will assume Stevens' duties in the interim.  Stevens had been with the Hollister police department for ten years.  He had been chief since 1996.

Aw, but gee...don't the Liberals love insisting that we should all give up our guns and let the police protect us from criminals??

Pardon me now, but I've got a few lefties I need to go catch so I can rub their noses in this one.

Other posters have already pointed this out, but his nose looks a lot like Roger Clinton's in his mug shot. He looks messed up.

Former Lipscomb Police Chief Charged With Robbing Migrant Worker

http://www.nbc13.com/news/2768280/detail.html

POSTED: 2:04 PM CST January 15, 2004

LIPSCOMB, Ala. -- Former Lipscomb police chief Charles Hines was booked in the Jefferson County Jail yesterday on robbery charges.

Sheriff's department spokesman Randy Christian said the 35-year-old Hines was indicted in connection with a robbery that targeted a Hispanic migrant worker.

Hines is being held on a total of $20,000 bond in the Jefferson County jail.

As NBC13 first reported, Hines was accused of cashing payroll checks stolen from a migrant worker. That case, which surfaced last October, is being investigated by federal authorities.

He was fired from his job last October.
