[history]
The three leading Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate held competing news conferences Thursday to tackle what each says is the main issue of 2004 campaign -- ousting "extremist" and "ideologue" incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer.
The candidates -- former California Secretary of State Bill Jones, former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin and former Bush administration official Toni Casey -- denounced Boxer for opposing military spending increases, President Bush's tax cuts and increased spending on homeland security.

Dude, if Howard Kaloogian wants to win the primary he needs to make sure he gets his own damn press conference out there and get his name into these articles.
Right now he has no name and no money, and hasn't shown why he should be taken seriously.

OK. Three Pubbies and one Demmy. If the supporters of the two losing Republican candidates hold true to California course, they will sabatoge the winner of the primary and hand the office back to Boxer on a silver platter. The griping that the winner isn't "conservative enough" will grow to a roar all out of proportion to their numbers.
You only have to go back a few days over two months to get what I'm talking about.

Money for Dem senate races will be scarce this year, and at the very least, the national party,a nd a lot of the lib/left special interest groups will be forced to allocate a lot of resources and cash to Boxer's campaign...it'll hurt them in other places..

What about Howard Kaloogian? What about him? Poor start to his campaign, failing to force himself into an article like this. He NEEDS the free publicity, big time.

Let's hope they are all correct.
And $830,000 isn't enough to win a statewide election of this magnitude in Kentucky, so I'm certain it won't be enough in California. Let's hope the eventual nominee can do a bit better in this arena.

SICK ER FIDO!
May the electorate BOXER EARS. BOXER ABOUT THE HEAD AND SHOULDERS. BOXER UP AND SHIP HER FAR, FAR AWAY . . . like maybe an Antarctic volcano--with a very good tent and down, sleeping bag, of course . . . perhaps a few years' supply of fire wood or sterno . . . and 101 recipies for penguin . . . or maybe for krill.
I suppose we could furnish her a pet to match her personality . . . maybe a cobra or scorpion . . . or a dozen black widows.
I wouldn't even mind if the electorate gave her an upside down fiberglass cesspool to live in, instead of a tent, or maybe over the tent for slightly better insulation.
Shoot, she could even use the Star Gate as far as I'm concerned--just as long as it was a one way ticket. And, just as long as she had no access to the net, a radio transmitter, a cell phone or landline before she left the galaxy.
That supermouth creature has had enough traitorous, insane, idiotic things to say to last a whole solar system for several dozen eons.

This is not a very promising group. Jones is the best of the lot but I do not give him much of a chance against Boxer. It is to bad, but our established GOP house members just do not want to take a chance of losing their house seats.

Of course, the Chronicle conveniently forgets about Howard Kaloogian.
Hell, even the L.A. Times included Howard in their Senate race article today!

In yesterday's SF Chronicle, Carla Marinucci even made the error of claiming Tony Strickland was still in the race. Ooops! They later corrected that error, but if they or other newspapers barely mention Kaloogian if at all, he will have no chance.
They mentioned him in an AP article on the SF Chron website:
Jones formally enters Senate race amid questions of electability
...
While never mentioning his rivals for the GOP nomination -- including former Los Altos Hills Mayor Toni Casey, anti-tax advocate Howard Kaloogian, and former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin -- Jones stressed the value of his government experience and history of winning statewide.

I think it was the other way around. Some people on FR claimed the GOP nominee wasn't electable (read: liberal) enough for CA.
