There have been a ton of DU talking points floating around freerepublic of late. And I keep noticing that often for the poster, the date of freerepublic join is Dec 10, 2000, or thereabouts, which would be when W was declared winner.

How secure is the freerepublic database from hacking of this sort, one wonders.

I have had problems with Bush's spending; increasing power of federal government and having so many of our military killed in Iraq yet not protecting our borders; signing into law McCain's pet project; etc. Still, I would have voted for him. But after this amnesty proposal that smacks of treason or insanity, our family will vote third party.

and his economic policy of selling out the American middle class have done it.

And what is that, the middle class tax cuts where people making $40K now pay next to nothing in income tax?

Maybe I tend to oversimplify but are we not missing something here. The Bushies disregard our abandonment to Mexico because we have to win the war on terror(in part). Ergo any republican must vote Bush no matter how he dumps on you. While I served on active duty I remember some doctrinal goals of being able to sustain and win two major regional conflicts simultaneously. Seems to me we have another war at our borders that the Bushies want to capitulate to as though we can't fight more than one war at a time. If you think there is not war going on at the border states then maybe war needs to be defined a little more broadly. Uncle Nikita said we would fall without firing a shot. While he was wrong as to which nation would be the victor he was right in his methodology if this insanity continues.

We'd scream bloody mary if we had to lose all this cheap labor and pay these workers minimum wages and higher if a union is involved. This doesn't just effect Big Business, it effects average Americans! Trash collectors in NYC comes to mind. Don't they earn outrageously great salaries for their labor??"

You haven't heard that the AFLCIO is already yapping about unionizing the "illegal undocumented" immigrants?

As for the trash collectors in NYC..more power to them. It's a nasty job, and the cost of living in NYC is way beyond the norm. It's all relative.

I'm trying to look at the big picture here, but my opinion of Bush has taken a big hit because of this immigration thing. Hopefully it was just a trial balloon, because I simply see nothing conservative about this proposed policy.

And btw, folks swaggering in their alleged conservatism most likely do not know what it is beyond the litmus tests du jour. If one opposes government actions, which is a very general, solid, encompassing philosophy completely independent of the Constitution -- well then why would alleged conservatives be looking to government to solve immigration issues. Why would they who want fewer and less government action(s) be complaining that Bush didn't announce more intrusive government enforcement action?

Here's the mantra for the day. If you are an extremist, of any political persuasion, you will NEVER EVER EVER get what you want. That is the nature of the political spectrum and there is nothing you will ever be able to do about it. The best you can ever do is minimize displeasure. There is no escaping that.

If you vote for a Democrat or any fringe third party candidate or stay home, you are electing a Democrat and maximizing displeasure. If you vote for Bush you are minimizing displeasure and that's the best you will be able to do. This is something you just have to live with. It is a reality of life that is inescapable.

Then don't complain when your grocery bill doubles or triples.

LOL. Dont complain about your high insurance and tax rates, you're saving 25 cents on a head of lettuce.

"Then don't complain when your grocery bill doubles or triples."

I won't. But I would stand up and cheer every time a boat/truckload of the criminals got sent home. There might even be a decrease in health care costs with the deportation of the criminals who get Medicare paid for services at the emergency room.

I see this as more of a national sovereignty issue, not strictly microeconomic (as it how much will it cost me).

That seems the way our family is going too. I'm not about to vote for anyone, state, local, or national that can't do better than this hairbrained idea. Let's open the prisons next - they cost money as well - amnesty for eveyone.

it would be better to ask this question around the time that the A. Weapons ban sunsets. If Bush keeps to his word and signs it, I think I'll spend the day organizing my sock drawer on Nov 7th.

Most of the biggest complainers won't even acknowledge that Pres Bush opened a dialog on Immigration with his proposals

Please. Bush put off the subject of illegal immigration after 9/11 because the logical common sense thing to do (enforce the "current" laws and secure our borders) is NOT what he wanted. So instead our borders are left wide open while we have a war on terrorism. This dishonesty here is amazing.

How come American citizens here in Southwestern Missouri can do these jobs but they can't where you live?

It's those Elitist Rockefeller Republican type's that never learned to roll up their sleeve's and get dirty doing the work, that carp that kind of garbage here every day. Don't be fooled by them, they're lazy, and would think nothing of making you/me do their yard work for slave wages (if any wage at all) if they could get away with it. Watch them closely, they are not hard to spot. Blackbird.

"I refuse to support Bush's push to a bigger socialist state. The medicare givaway should be a deal-breaker for anyone who supports smaller government."

I encourage you to read Newt Gingrinch's book on this subject -- it could provide edifying! [BTW: Gingrinch STRONGLY supported the Medicare legislation -- he's such a leftwing radical!]
