Honey-chile, you just hop in that car and come on up with those delightful "chilren"!

Thank you for the compliment - I'm a South Carolinian by birth and a Chaaaaaaaaaaaallllllstonian by the Grace of GOD and proud of it too! Lol!

We couldn't forget our fallen. South Carolina has always risen to the call of Uncle Sam and the mighty Eagle...

Until recent years, the Navy has been a continually been a big presence in Charleston and the State. In the ninties, we lost our Naval Base and lots of jobs with it. The Naval Weapons Station and several other facilities have managed to barely hang on with reduced personnel and a change of functions. The Navy is no longer the vital part of the community that it once was.

How sad that the people in Washington had to build a new base in Texas expending millions of dollars. Also the relocation, retraining, purchase of housing, etc for the civilians that worked there. The also relocated the ship repair facility to, I believe Maine. We were able to facilitate repairs year round here on both subs and ships. Now the old shipyard is practically a ghost town even though parts of it have been but to use.

I know.
There's lots of ways to look at this problem, and there are many facets to examine.
What we don't need, in my opinion, is a forced wage for menial jobs.

Something we have to face, Rus, is that you and I grew up working, and working hard.
Very few of the youngsters now days could turn out a day's work like we used to have to do it no matter what the pay.

I've done frame work, and I've done taping and bedding and painting.
Those jobs are not done by gringos anymore for the most part.
The work is too hard, and the pay is too short.
Those jobs are now done by Mexican workers who came to this country as immigrants, and most of them now are citizens.
They brought with them the work ethic forced on them since childhood that in order to survive they had to work hard.
Our society, to a large extent, has lost that work ethic.

Good morning all.

I received this in a freepmail this morning from our dear LadyX. Let's all get together and send her warm thoughts and wishes for a quick fix to her heating problems. I know she is disappointed because she wanted to be here today to participate in celebrating her state.

"Hate to relate that LadyX is under Emergency Conditions, today of all days - - -

Woke at 4 to discover the HEAT is not working..:(

Called at 7 and reached heating repairman, who said he would "work it in before lunch," as best he could.

I need to stay offline so he can reach us, if need be, to report delay, etc.

Will check in whenever I am snug and toasty again.

Sorry to let you down, but due to Circumstances Beyond My Control, I need a Hall Pass issued..:))

Please let FreeTheSausages and The Thin Man know this is legitimate!!!"
Dear Maggie, you have never let us down. We will be here when you return. Warm cyber-hugs on their way.

I hereby bequeath thee a hallpass. Although, now that I'm not a half-sistah, Maggie, I can only claim to have access to the hall passes because I of course stole a stash of them, like any enterprising junior high school student would.

But seriously, oh dear, of all days to be without heat. I do hope that goes better for you.

Our society, to a large extent, has lost that work ethic.

I couldn't agree with you more.
Up untill last year I had my own small roofing, siding and remodeling co.I couldn't find anyone yound that could keep up with me or my foreman. I was 47 and Preston 45, old guys. All these kids could do is complain that the work was to hard and they wanted more money. WA wa wa !

I no longer have my own co. or employees and am to old to do it on my own. I would be happy to do custom carpentry work by myself, cept I moved back to the area with the worst economey and the highest taxes in the country. Neck and neck with California, but they pay is better there, NY is the pits, just can't find a decent job.

Our society, to a large extent, has lost that work ethic.

That's what happens when folks can "earn" over $20,000 a year in money and benefits for simply depending on the Government for everything. Personally I couldn't imagine living like that but I see it all the time. Young, otherwise healthy people sitting home day after day smoking, drinking, drugging and breeding. Come the first of the month or the day of the week for Child Support checks they are standing there with outstretched hand waiting for that envelope. Not to mention the wasted money on the huge bureaucracies that promote dependancy, illegitimacy and sloth.

By addressing only illegal immigration, I think the administration is simply medicating the symptoms while ignoring the disease. If the social hammock is taken down you will find, by necessity that Americans will start filling these jobs again. And once in the workforce the desire to better ones lot will lead to more self responsibilty amoungst the poor.

Most of us are far-sighted about sin—we see the sins of others but not our own.

Isn't that the truth?

Good morning. Always wonderful to see that purple cup and those inspirational messages and Scripture you bring each day.
