The DMZ in Korea is 150 miles and I don't think it would cost any where near 100 billion a year to patrol and secure the Mexican border. The Soviets managed to keep their people from escaping that country over the longest border in the world for a hell of lot less than 100 billion a year.

They made the countries around them into "buffer states" with Communist governments just as oppressive as the USSR's.
