"And just how do you think we managed before 1970?"

kelly, you truly think that undocumented illegal aliens crossing the SW border is something that did not exist before the 1970's?

Girl!

But you are incredibly naive!

The problem with an increasing illegal alien population began when we started "controlling" the border.

Before, migrant workers would come in, work, and go home when harvesting season was over, then, they became afraid of not being able to rerurn to their jobs if they returned home, and they decided to stay here.

>>If a person overstaying their temporary visa decides to fade into the society, how would you go about finding them?<<

My sincere, not sarcastic, question is this:

If we have that problem now, and we do, why should we expect that after allowing untold numbers of more immigrants in, that they will not overstay THEIR legal status, thus compounding the problem, and so on, and so on, and so on?

It seems to me that what Bush has said does not address this very fundamental issue. Maybe I missed it, honestly. But I think this is a legitimate concern.

"Don't forget the 88,000+ miles of coastline?" you must have gone to public schools! ROFLMAO I believe the coastline of the continental USA is about 12K miles last time I checked. Now if you know some Mexicans who can swim from Mexico to LA, Honolulu or NYC you be sure and let me know cause I'm gonna want to sign them up for the Olympics immediately. ROFLMAO But I believe the Coast Guard has the coastline pretty well covered but thank you for your sincere concern.

Exactly, whothehell wants a "kinder and gentler" gov't? ....Or a "compassionate" one, for that matter. I just want them to get out of my wallet, my gun rack, and my face. ......and to protect the damn borders against illegal invasion. Too much to ask? Apparently so.

Again, what do we do about the millions already here?

Bush inherited this problem, he did not invent it, nor did he personally escort them in.

Now, we are all pissed about these ten million illegal aliens hiding in society.

How do we go about identifying, arresting, and deporting ten million people without violating every civil and constitutional right we hold dear?

And I'm not talking about the constitutional rights of illegal aliens, I'm talking about the constitutional rights of the rest of us who will have to live through it.

"Girl?" If you check my tagline you will realize that I have the wrong plumbing to be called "girl"...and BTW migrant workers with working visas have worked legally here for generations...you really are starting to bore me with your inane comments and ridiculous questions...I think you had better take a siesta cause I have better things to do than to debate any longer with someone who is ignorant of the facts. Buenas noches, amigo!

"Now if you know some Mexicans who can swim from Mexico to LA, Honolulu or NYC you be sure and let me know cause I'm gonna want to sign them up for the Olympics immediately."

You're crossing over from naive, to stupid.

Florida is one of the States with the highest number of illegal aliens in the nation, and what border do we share?

Alabama?

Georgia?

But we do get tons of boat loads of illegal aliens brought in by smugglers from Haiti, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica...

The tidal shorelines of the US, our off-shore islands and cays, are American soil, and Cuban rafters use them to gain entry, as do Haitians, Dominicans, etc.

Shut down the SW border, and the coyotes go sea bound.

We have problems stopping tons of cocaine and pot coming in yearly, and you think that the Coast Guard will be able to handle the drug smugglers, AND the coyotes?

The solution is to eliminate the problem, the most logical one is to document temporary workers. It worked before, it will work again.

What do we do about the illegals?

Let me agree with DrDeb, I am NO KIND of expert. I don't know. And I am willing to listen to all sides, and am trying to keep an open mind.

But it seems to me that when the Mexican newspapers headline with Mexicans cheering and vowing to pour over the border in numbers unknown heretofore, coupled with the inefficiency of the current way of doing things, it troubles with me.

It seems to me that we are being told that while immigrants are going to be rushing over the border, this time the system is going to work, even though the system is pretty well screwed right now. Supposedly it will work sure this time. Honest.

It doesn't add up to me. That's all.

The solution is to eliminate the problem . . .

The root of the problem is in Mexico. Send the illegals back and let them find a solution.

If that person crossed the border illegally that makes him or her a criminal. I don't care why they crossed the border, just that they crossed the border. Deport them

It seems to me that what Bush has said does not address this very fundamental issue.

I think this policy has very little to do with solving the "illegal immigration" issue. What this is an H-1B replacement policy wrapped up in an illegal immigration solution package. Illegal immigrants have absolutely no incentive to sign up for these visa's. They already are working here and getting paid under the table and they do not have to pay taxes. Most likely they are getting paid better as illegal. What this is a work visa program that will enable any company to hire any worker from any country in America. This is his gift to corporate America, he added the aspect about illegal immigrants so that the real issue is not even on most peoples radar screen.

Laugh away. He won't get any new Hispanic votes, but he'll be losing a good many from his base.

Maybe that's what you're really after--dangle the hope of Hispanic votes, then see him defeated.
