Vicente Fox: 'We're Going for More' Than Bush Plan

Mexican President Vicente Fox said Thursday that while President Bush's plan to liberalize U.S. immigration law was a good start, he intends to press for further reforms that would loosen restrictions on Mexican immigration to the U.S.

"We're going for more. We're going for more," Fox told reporters while visiting a Mexican shelter for street children.

While announcing his intention to press Bush to go even further, Fox praised the president for taking "a great step forward," adding that he deserved partial credit for the breakthrough.

"It is an achievement of the measures we have been taking during these [last] three years," he told the Associated Press.

In a 2000 interview Fox outlined his goal for fully open borders between the U.S. and Mexico within ten years.

"I'm talking about a community of North America, an integrated agreement of Canada, the United States, and Mexico in the long term, 20, 30, 40 years from now," he told PBS's Jim Lehrer "That may mean in 10 years we can open up that border when we have reduced the gap in salaries and income."

In a 2002 interview, Fox rejected the term "illegal alien."

"They are not illegals. They are not illegals," he told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." "They are people that come there to work, to look for a better opportunity in life. . . They are there because the U.S. economy needs them."

President Bush intends to brief President Fox on his new plan during the January 12-13 "Summit of the Americas" in Mexico.

How about whatever rights are extended to Mexican citizens in the US be reciprocal. US citizens have automatically the right to own property in their own names, establish businesses in their own names, seek employment and claim legal immigration papers after the fact.

There is a push on the part of some to grant some voting rights to Mexican residents in some US elections; how about granting similar voting rights for American citizens in Mexican elections.

They've spent generations polluting their air and water, trashing their natural resources, running their economy into the toilet, and placing one corrupt government after another into power. Now they want to try to 'elevate' their living standards by lowering ours. This country is doomed as it currently exists.

Loosening the border isn't exactly what I had in mind.

So he is suggesting the dissolution of Mexico and Canada? Maybe not a bad idea. Time to redraw the map and move the borders a little further North and South. How many States would be created in what is now Mexico?

Would be kind of funny. Those that think Mexico needs to reclaim the Southwest better watch out. We may claim Mexico. Given all the corruption and pollution there's probably a moral and human rights reason to the claim :-)

We're going for more

Is there any country in the world other than Mexico whose express public policy is getting rid of their own people?

"That may mean in 10 years we can open up that border when we have reduced the gap in salaries and income."

There are a lot of issues buried in this simple article which offer great concern for us as United State citizens. This open borders 'vision' will not likely mean anything more that a one way highway and not only a reduction in the gap in income, but a reduction in income for us, period.

Needless to say, I do not expect to soon see the day when we will be able to go get ANY job in Mexico, much less a decent paying one.

Open up the border in 10 years after wages have leveled off....I think that means when all of the ILLEGALS who are people in violation of OUR laws have so depressed OUR economy that OUR standard of living is reduced to the much lower standard of the average Mexican.Of course the politicos of Mexico and the U.S. will have nothing to worry about as they will continue to live in luxury.
It is my understanding that Mexico has very strict immigration standards for those trying to enter their country, why is that, after all they are only seeking a better standard of living.Could it be the complexion of their skin....El Presidente Fox and most of his fellow Mexican leaders are of Spanish and European decent I believe, they are the anointed.

Eventually I can see a United Continent of States from the Artic to Pantagonia. We won't see it in our life times but it will come.

We ought to tkae over PEMEX and route a share of it's revenues north in proportion to the $35 billion cost to the US taxpayer of illegals.

Suddenly sovereignty would become a very important concept to Mr Fox.
