They view us as contemptible serfs, anyway. As long as they have cheap servant labor, they don't care what happens to us I've got some leaves you can rake. I pay the high-school kid $8/hour. I'll pay you the same and all the water-out-of-a-hose you can drink.
He can rake ten bags an hour. You'll have to do 12.

Those who won't vote for him will only help elect a Rat, all of whom will do great harm to the country in many ways. I dunno... a Rat president and a strongly GOP congress = gridlock. Do you think we'd have the same CFR, Medicare drug plan, etc., passed in that situation?

The FR poll numbers are rapidly climbing.

That's a very intelligent reply. But I understand because bush's position is indefensible. He won with 537 votes last time, that won't happen again.

I don't know where you live but most crime around here is commited by native born Americans.
Second, my take home has increased since President Bush took office. I trust that his policies are taxpayer friendly and all indications are that they are. Third, schools have been falling apart not because of an influx of immigrants but because of a proliferation of unskilled teachers and insane teaching methods and materials.

Whatever.The one key thing here.
"Whatever" necessary to pander to the Hispanic vote.
I rail on about pandering to the black vote and what happens? He takes one more step down the line and panders to that vote.
[shrug] So much for logic.

But to me, the President painted a pretty picture and didn't tackle to the toughest parts. Did he give a specific date they had to register by? Then what? What assurance was given by Mexico that they would create more jobs there? I need more details!!!!
To: eleni121
In general, immigrants offer much more to this nation than they take.It is flat out false that illegal immigrants add more to this country than they take out.
The tax and social costs of illegals are huge.
And they are a major factor in depressing American wages
But, from your posts, I sense you like that idea-so you must get some personal benefit from it
To: Sloth
So you think we would be better off today if Al Gore was President?
To: wjcsux
Workers that are paid cash do not pay witholding tax, FICA or Medicare witholding. That is exactly why you need a guest worker program with monitoring of the employers. Then they will have taxes deducted and the employers will have to pay for their portion of the payroll tax. If they then want to send the rest of their paychecks to Mexico, that's their business.
To: heleny
So, would this temporary worker card be standardized across the board, which means a non-citizen could NOT use it to establish residency and vote?
To: riri
The only thing we have done is create a new category. We will have low wage American workers, Mexican workers here on this plan who will work for cheaper than low wage Americans and, still, border crossers here illegally willing to work cheaper than the documented worker. Did you miss the part where IBM is sending thousands of jobs to China and India because they are willing to work cheaper than the U.S. citizen? You don't have to be in the United States to take American jobs these days.
To: rintense
I need more details!!!! The question has been recognized; a policy has been established. Details will be forthcoming, probably on a case-by-case basis.

"Wages and prices should of course be set by competition and by market principles, but don't you think that a problem arises when some of the "competitors" choose to violate the law? The problem here is that some employers are hiring people who aren't legally in the country. Their presence in the country increases the supply of labor and depresses wages for the workers legally here."
I think this definitely occurs in some job markets, but not all job markets. I think Bush's proposal will go a long way to correct this problem as employer's will be legally required to pay at least minimum wage. Also employer's who provide benefits to legal employees will have to provide those same benefits for temporary workers. THis being the case, the incentive for hiring illegal aliens will be gone and maybe with that, more Americans will get the jobs currently occupied by the illegals.
