"Why the ban on criticism of Bush on here?"
Yeah, right. I haven't seen a single blast at Bush here all day. There is more free exchange on this site than any other; certainly far more than DU. For what it's worth I'd like to see most of the Bush bashers head on over to DU. Why, after a dozen or so stabs at Bush, they might sneak in some free exchange over there!

I see, so a Dean or Clark favoring full amnesty with no questions asked should replace him? Who knows, with a Dem president the GOP congress might grow some grapefruits and be a strong opposition party, instead of just bending over like they are now.

Frankly, if we oppose Dean as hard as we opposed Clinton, we would probably pass less of the left wing agenda than Bush has. You are 100 percent correct.

Well. after three years of torturously debating the initial "problem identification" phase of this daunting illegal immigration project, at least we can now move onto debating the "action plan" phase. There's a plan on the table. Alternative proposals are now being accepted.
That's not as fun for the stalwarts, because the first phase is a process of painful, grievous testimonials of ongoing injury. That process has powered this debate almost exclusively here.
Hopefully, the energy here can now transition to Bush opponents presenting their proactive, politically plausible alternatives to the proposal the President just presented. I'd like to see this debate become more solution oriented on FR.*

Bless your heart, PhiKapMom. It's good to see that not everyone is drinking the Kool Aid. I think President Bush made a bold and humane proposal for dealing with a problem that no one else wanted to touch. He gave a tremendous speech today and the American people will rally around him as they've done in the past.

I'll second that.
A lot of quick tempers here today.

What was your screen name in 2000 when you opposed George W. Bush. Because anyone who questions Bush is a Democrat
Do you remember Executive Orders that Clinton passed?
Translation: Vote for Bush because Clinton was worse
If you want to support Dean, be honest enough to say you support Dean and take the heat for it but don't give me the spin Dean would be better than Bush crap!
Because anyone who doesn't agree with PhiKapMom is a liar, a troll, and a Dean supporter

You've made far too many 'good points' to pick apart, and that saddens me to no end. I agree that ambition in both parties seems to have relaxed their spines but just how do you propose getting rid of or controlling the 14 million stray albatrosses bleeding this country dry?
To: flamefront
Thanks for the Reagan quote, I had forgotton that one. I miss him so much.
Sadly, he tried the amnesty thing as well, but for entirely motivations: I believe his was an honest stab at correcting the problem. Of course, illegal immigration simply boomed therafter, and we will see a second albeit hypersonic boom from this travesty.
To: Thisiswhoweare
Exactly. We should learn from mistakes.

Hmmm.....then why did the great saint Reagan go for permanent amnesty....which Bush is not proposing?
Oh how convenient it is to forget what past conservatives have done.

Strong words for a newbie. Yeah, I'm new, so what?
I saw someone being attacked, being called a liar with no evidence, and simply pointed it out. I also called the attacker on their fallacious logic (ad hominem and "lesser of two evils" are the two obvious examples).
I'd hope that the level of discourse on the site would be such that if I hadn't said it, someone else would have.

Feel free to add my name to the list, but it not just this issue that has caused my reaction. I could live with just this issue since I am divided on it due to conflicting religous principles. Even though I am divided on this issue I lean more towards well regulated imigration due to the fact that
any government has a primary obligation to see that the lot of the people it governs is constantly improving.
But like I said this is only one issue, but with the others this has done it for me...
I did not and still do not look fondly at this adminstrations attempts to hamstring Israel, and the constant "urging of restraint" after a "martyr" detonates themselves and in the process kills a dozen or so people in a bus, a bus stop, or a resturant. My faith owes quite a bit to the stability of the "Zionist" government and I am quite certain that without it there would be no temple on Mount Carmel. To see our milatry in Iraq using many of the same tactics the Israelis use only shows that this administration is following a policy of do we say not as we do to Israel.
That and after Bush's interview with the visiting Chinese dignatary where he essentally stated the PRC's line on Taiwan in light of President Chens statements that he would hold a "security referendum" disgust me. The Bushbots(tm) were out in full force that day rationalizing it. Heaven forbid a people have democratic asperations and it be "incovienent" for us to support them.
If this gets me on a list then so be it, no more playing a conservative, I'm a moralist.
Now lets see if a moralist will get zotted.
