What I get from this is that we will get a handle on who is here. Those here have to have a job - not stand around the convenience store looking for day labor.
We'll see - I live just a few blocks from one of those aforementioned convenience stores (in Atlanta). It is literally teeming with illegals. In fact, the cops sit right there in their police cars every morning waiting to ticket passing motorists for speeding, etc. Somehow I don't think they are going to be any more motivated to clear out the aliens.

Oh, and be sure and let me know when you find that ideal candidate that we can ALL agree with who will get the majority of America's votes.

The truth hurts.
If you don't believe it, BRING IT. I'm here.

No, it's not. Amnisty is permanent. This is for a 3 year period only and then you have to go home. You can re-apply but you must have a job that fully provides for you. You can only have your family here if you can provide for them financially. BIG difference.

You are incorrect. ALL undocumented workers will have to make application. They are NOT grandfathered in. If they do not have a permanent job, they have to go home.

Your #913, bingo. Dean will not be the candidate to run against Bush. There is too much at stake in the Democratic party and that party is run by the Clintons.
Look for Dean to get edged out at the convention.

One of the most annoying things about this whole argument is why the president is even doing this- what is his political motivation? Look for the most reasonable answer -
President Bush really does want to make America safer. All sorts of programs that will identify people are in the works or already commenced. The INS was a total basket case, and identified with the illegals more than Americans. The control of people coming into the US has been moved to Homeland Security. I am sure that a lot of change has been outlined in the philosophy, policies and procedures toward all persons entering the US.
"Ten million people people" living in the shadows was not helpful to any law enforcement agency. I see this proposal as going a long way to change that situation.

I would expect to see a return of legal day labor hiring, from legitimate companies checking documents.

"Catholics aren't Christians."I have plenty of Catholic friends who would disagree with you on that ignorant comment...

3. Mexicans are overwhelmingly Catholic. Catholics aren't Christians. If your arguments against the president's proposals are typical, then I am correct in never posting to these threads, which I find in the main filled with acrimony and baseless insults, and devoid of reason and discourse.
This is my first and last comment on ANY thread about illegal aliens,
