[history]
In a horse race like the one for the Democratic presidential nomination, being first in the early going isn't always best. It only focuses scrutiny on every misstep or gaffe.
So, retired Gen. Wesley Clark has been in the best spot: trailing, but not too far, ready to step in as the composed, credible leader when front-runner Howard Dean self-destructs, as some predict the former Vermont governor will do.

Wesley Clark is the George McClellan of our times. Like McClellan he is a pretty boy that says all the right things but does nothing! Abe Lincoln gave McClellan chance after chance to prove himself a leader. It never happened! Nor will it ever happen with this Clinton opportumnist, failure Wesley Clark!

Using the word credible to describe Clark is INCREDIBLE

Clark attended West Point, where he graduated first in his class. He went to Oxford University in England on a Rhodes Scholarship and earned a master's degree in philosophy, politics and economics. Listening to him, i'd never have guessed this.

I'm undecided with respect to who is the preferred candidate to run against Bush (i.e. which one's going to lose with the largest margin). Clark has enough baggage to sink him, including his conduct of the war in Kosovo. This idiot thinks he's going to indict Bush on "cowboy diplomacy" when his senior general in the theatre, General Jackson of Great Britain refused his order to engage the Russians and prevent their occupation of the airport at Pristina, even though he knew that it was prohibitive from a diplomatic perspective and out of bounds with respect to both the administration's policy as well as NATO's. An order which Jackson replied to by stating,"I'm not going to be responsible for starting World War III !"
The reason Clark was asked to step down is he continued to work around the "command structure" by working behind the scene and going around the "Chiefs of Staff" to get things done his way. Because of his wonderful "leadership skills" he probably antagonized and angered every officer that work either above or below him. He crows about his accomplishments in the former Yugoslavia, but then goes on and criticizes the administration's military action in Iraq, when from a global geo-political perspective Yugoslavia was "small potatoes" when compared to Iraq. So, speaking on his part of Bushes "cowboy diplomacy" strikes me as not only ludicrous but evidence of his own "cognitive disonance" and hypocrisy.

All of these are reasons why he should not ever be elected President. Give me the B or C student any time. They have a lot more common sense.

I see the news media have gotten the signal from the Clintons to begin the next phase of the operation. The first was "Dump Dean". Now they move on to "Promote Clark".
I think it's pretty clever that Clark skipped Iowa and concentrated on the South. It also gives him a chance to study the debates of the dem candidates without actually having to participate. Good intel.

My personal theory is that Clark is just holding a place for Hillary.
Hillary is afraid of entering the presidential campaign too early because she would be subjected to the type of uncontrolled campaigning in which she has refused to engage in the past, ie... unscripted interviews, audience questions that haven't been prescreened, etc...
But there are filing deadlines that have to be met in order to accumulate delegates to the national convention.
Clark is meeting the filing deadlines for her and although his name will be on the ballot, he and Hillary can announce shortly before the Southern primaries that she is running and that all of Clark's delegates will be instructed to vote for Hillary.

Man, I gotta watch where I step in this thread, there are so many cow pies lying about:
Clark, 59, the Southerner and soldier/scholar, helped negotiate the Dayton Peace Accords on Bosnia in 1995 and led NATO troops to victory over Slobodan Milosevic in Kosovo in 1999.
To the left, if you bomb from 15,000 feet, target civilians and then capitulated to the other side, that is still a victory.
He was most visible recently as the CNN commentator on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Gee, I wonder why this columnist didn't grade the veracity of Clark's predictions?
Clark got into the primary late, after an Internet-based Draft Clark movement.
Yeah, 50 professionally-done websites spontaneously sprouted across cyberspace. It's a miracle!
Clark served in the Army from 1966 to 2000 and was wounded in Vietnam while patrolling in the jungle. He received the Purple Heart and Silver Star.
And this is a sterling mark for Clark's character. Unfortunately, when he moved into a leadership role, he almost started war with Russia on three occasions and had to have a State Department handler as he romped around the Balkans and socialized with wanted war criminals.
But he has been called the "anti-war general" because he opposed the war in Iraq, calling it "elective." He says President Bush launched the war under false pretenses.
That is always my favorite part. The Kosovo campaign was justified with statements from the Clinton Administration about a possible genocide in Kosovo - statements that were proven to be false - but the Bush Administration used intel that stretched back to the Clinton years and was used by Clinton to justify Operation Desert Fox - but Bush launched the war on false pretenses.
Yep, he's the anti-Bush alright - but not for the reasons provided by the author of this pap.

You better get ready, Destro, there is a big push for Clark happening right now by the media and Democrat establishment.

Russian aid workers stoned in Kosovo
DECIANY, Serbia-Montenegro, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A bus carrying Russian aid workers and journalists in Kosovo was attacked by stone-throwing Albanians Wednesday, the Novosti agency reported.
The workers were from the non-governmental St. Andrew foundation, which arrived in the area Jan. 4. The incident happened after an Orthodox Christmas service involving Russian-delegation members.
One bus window was shattered, but no one was hurt.
Earlier, the Russian delegation met Serb families in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. Only about 150 Serbs now live there, isolated in one large apartment building guarded by peacekeepers, including about 100 Russians.
Pristina university professor Lubisa Folic says that 40,000 Serbs used to live in Pristina before the introduction of U.N. units in 1999, accounting for 40 percent of the entire local population.

"...ready to step in as the composed, credible leader when front-runner Howard Dean self-destructs..."
...or when Dean is de-constructed in some manner by the 'Clinton team'. . .
