"I'm not a 1 issue person"

ha ha ha

yet from an earlier post:

"This cements it for me – I'm not voting for Bush. Other than the War on Terror – what has GWB done that can be considered conservative?"

So abortion isn't your one issue - but immigration is? I pointed out a bunch of things unrelated to WOT or abortion, such as general deregulation and reversal of Clinton policies, ending the ABM treaty against loud opposition, privatisation, putting the screws to the ABA, and most importantly, appointing solidly conservative judges.

BTW, I live in Arizona, a border state. I see the impact of illegal immigration every day. The status quo is simply not working. I'm willing to entertain other ideas, and withhold judgement until the President actually presents a plan, as opposed to the media echo chamber of what this is supposed to contain. Remember the noise a few weekends ago about expectation of Bush announcing a manned Mars mission? Never happened. Anyhow,

I'm certain I'd like Bush's solution, even if imperfect, much better than Dean's.

The entire issue of anchor babies needs to be addressed at some point. In Europe, if a Turkish guest worker has a kid while living in Germany, that kid is not automatically a German citizen.

Although the XIVth Amendment seems to address the issue, the "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" clause raises the question in my minds of whether just anybody born on U.S. soil is, by Constitutional right, automatically a U.S. citizen.

For example, if the XIVth Amendment meant that anybody born on U.S. soil is automatically a U.S. citizen, then why was the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 ever required?

Yes – I'm not a 1-issue person. But it's been a compounding of issues that GWB has been weak on and the final nail is his desire to legalize the illegals.

But lets tackle 1 issue at a time based upon your list: deregulation... deregulation of what? There is no mention of deregulation of anything on your list. 2 of the 4 issues E.O. that Bush overturned were about abortion. The other two –"ergonomitics" was a fad bill that was pretty much dead by the time Bush overturned it and saying that Clinton's CO2 rules were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California is a simple explanation at best.

The ABM treaty – that treaty has been and always will be a joke. Neither us nor the Russians really honored that treaty. 1983 we started the SDI program and some variation of the program has been in every administration since Reagan. Privatisation?? – of what? Medicare? – let's be honest after the stock market crash we haven't heard much about privatising medicare. The ABA – he didn't kill the ABA on their influence in judge recommendation – the ABA still has as much pull as they did before. Judicial appointments – if GWB keeps pushing a liberal agenda no matter how conservative a judge maybe – you will still have liberal laws they need to enforce.

And I live in California – so what's your point about living in Arizona? Yes the status quo isn't work – but your solution is since they are here lets just legalize them? That seems to be GWB solution.

Count me in as considering the Constitution Party in 2004 or whatever. This did it.

Bush had my support for reelection from 12 September 2001 until 7 January 2004. Almost 2 1/2 years, gained from an initial position of non-support.

But this issue, and the whole dishonesty and outrage of it all, pushed my patience over the line. So help me, I'll split the ticket this one if I have to, but first I'll see if the local GOP Congressman is also on board with Bush/Rove, and if so, it will be even a more split ticket in 2004.

Gotta go now and edit my FR Personal Profile page on this one.

It wasn't my thought, but Rush Limbaugh's today (by the way, he was LIVID about this!), and he said:

OK, so the MASSIVE majority of Californians say NO DRIVERS LICENSES for ILLEGAL ALIENS, and the legislature rescinds said legislation.

Then Bush comes along and says "Illegal Aliens can stay if they prove they have work."

OK. So, how do they get to work?

They have to DRIVE. (In most cases).

And to DRIVE, they have to have licenses.

However, THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THE VARIOUS STATES WILL NOT STAND FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS GETTING DRIVERS LICENSES.

So help me, this is the achilles heel. On the state level EVERYWHERE people have to get behind laws to forbid Illegal Aliens Drivers Licenses. What's Bush going to do, override it on the Federal level, or seek to have it declared "unconstitutional" under the "equal protection clause"?

These stupid people in the White House never thought about that part, I suppose.

I heard Bush talking this skank today, with the reference..."this system will allow them to then go on and get the documentation that the rest of us have but take for granted daily." He is talking "Drivers Licenses!" I say we force his hand on this and force it good and hard.

My immediate reaction, which I am sure is totally unacceptable, is to start shooting or give up. Until and unless the American people revolt, we are completely screwed. We are now making a giant leap towards bringing this country down to the lowest common denominator. Why not just hang a sign at the borders that reads, "come on in. America is free to everyone except Americans."

And after he gets re-elected it will be about green cards.

This is another reason why the 14th Amendment must be ratified to read that either parent must be a US citizen in order for that child to get US citizenship.

Last night I was trying to read what the Mexican take on this was.

I think they're more in the know about this than the American people.

the mere fact that W proposed it might be enough to get Fox re-elected in Mexico...

They only get one 6 year term. The front runner right how for the PAN candidate is ---- Mrs. Fox --- Marta --- his wife of 2 years. Hmmmmm.

Three years is more than enough time to give birth to a few babies. Those babies will be citizens and qualify for every welfare program there is --- a nice subsidy for those low wages they'll expect to be given.
