FORT LAUDERDALE -- Political consultant Ellyn Bogdanoff of Fort Lauderdale won a special election for state House District 91 on Tuesday evening, defeating her closest rival, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Mayor Oliver Parker, apparently by a mere 12 votes.
A special recount has been ordered for Thursday in the district, which spans from southeast Palm Beach County through Broward County's coastal cities into Dania Beach.

Anyway, I am glad to see Ellyn Bogdanoff win this election. I met her back when she was running for the school board...schwing! Also Oliver Parker ran a really dirty campaign. He had flyers sent out to Republicans accusing Republican Bogdanoff of secretly being a Democrat and also sent out flyers to Democrats accusing Bogdanoff of being a vicious rightwing Republican. Sorry, Oliver, you can't have it both ways. BTW, this was an unusual election for South Florida since ALL the candidates for this State House seat were Republicans since the district is heavily Repulican.
Okay, I'm game which part? BTW, she might really have had a part in the flick. Before becoming Supervisor of Elections, Oliphant was a fashion model. However, nobody noticed her as being nutty back then. I did recently read a theory that when Oliphant got power as Elections Supervisor it set off some sort of pre-existing hidden psychiatric condition that caused her to act nutty. It wasn't that Oliphant was merely incompetent. She also acted like a total MENTAL CASE.
Pretty close. After Jeb Bush's order to remove her from office, uniformed officers showed up at her office and escorted Oliphant out of the building and then they changed all the locks. Right now Oliphant is suing to get her job back but it's going nowhere. Everyone (even Democrats) is glad she's gone.

Oliphant's Mother Barred From Working As Poll Worker
Cotter To See If Oliphant Violated Antinepotism Law

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- It seems the mother of Broward Elections Supervisor Miriam Oliphant will not be allowed to return as a poll worker on Nov. 5.Deputy Supervisor Joe Cotter is trying to see if Oliphant violated Florida's antinepotism law.
Broward County poll worker Kathleen Weinstein, a paraplegic who lives on Social Security and said she needs the $135 wage from the primary election, claims she was laid off from her job to make room for Oliphant's mother -- Hattie McKinzie.
In the days before the primary, McKinzie was assigned to work at Weinstein's precinct.
"They told me that Mrs. Oliphant's mother had requested to work in that precinct, so I couldn't any longer," Weinstein said.
Florida's antinepotism law forbids the public officials from hiring their relatives, but state ethics officials said it was unclear if Oliphant's case applies.
Oliphant, who has been reduced to a figurehead after the primary disaster in Broward County, did not return a phone message Monday.
Cotter, who has taken over the supervising of the election office, called the decision to remove Weinstein from her job a "terrible mistake."
Poll workers may be considered independent contractors, not employees, because they are hired only for election days.
"There has never been an opinion on it," said Helen Jones, spokeswoman for the state Ethics Commission. "The key would be whether being a poll worker would be considered a 'position."'
This IS South Florida after all, where Republicans are left with a few pathetic precincts along the coast. My parents inland Boca Raton precinct went 72% for Al Gore. My former State Senator in Miami, Rudy Garcia, was very conservative on social issues, however. Most other SoFla Republicans (if you can find them) are RINOs.
Believe it or not, here in Brooklyn, I am represented in congress by Vito Fossella, who is the only New York congresscritter to score in the 90s on the American Conservative Union ratings on a regular basis.
Ellen Bogdanoff takes her marching orders from local RAT uberbitch Ali Waldman. Jeb shouldn't count on her support on any close votes. Her resume' says "R" but her heart says "RAT"!
Except that she worked for Jeb so I think he CAN count on her.
We'll see. I expect she'll line up with Ali Waldman and her fem-pals. IMO she was one of the worst candidates in an incredibly lame field. The Broward County Rep Party is infested with RINOs.
I guess she decided she'd run (this is at least her third race, all for different offices) until she finally got elected to something. Too bad she had to resort to negative campaigning and hide behind some phony "citizens group" (What was it...People for Integrity in Government or something).
