Free Republic for only $5 dollars a month...you have to be kidding me?!
Really, how much is $5 a month. It is nothing. It is...
$0.17 per day
1 1/2 lattes at Starbucks
1 issue of National Review or Weekly Standard or Weekly World News...
1 lunch at your favorite greasy spoon
2 beers
1/2 a pizza
3.5 gallons of gas
There are tons of things that you can spend $5 on, but $5 a month for the most comprehensive news site on the web?! Not too mention non-stop commentary that is enough to make you laugh, cry, or think. That is a deal that can't be beat.
Remember...
- A subscription to your local paper: $75 per year (over $5 a month)
- A subscription to the Wall Street Journal: $700 per year (over $58 a month!)
- A $5 or $10 monthly contribution to one of the best sources for local, national, and international news (with commentary from fellow FREEPERS): PRICELESS!
Let's get going! All you lurkers, buck up for a couple of bucks! Even if you don't want to join the discussion, you are reading the stories. Don't be a free-rider...chip in.
I am proud to be a monthly donor and only wish that I could contribute more. In fact, I look forward to when I am making better money, so I can contribute more. Thanks to all the monthly donors who provide a monthly financial commitment to support one of the best sites around.

I just donated but a question: Does FR publish how the money is spent? I would just be curious. I have some suggestions for whatever that's worth. If we market FR more, we could probably boost membership. Another idea- create a network of "informers" that receive blurbs (ie: missives, cartoons, etc.) that can be forwarded to friends and family. We could really make a difference and it would have a multiplier effect. Grassroots support of conservative ideas and Republican party.

I believe that you can search FR for that information. Jim Robinson has been and is very open about how the money is used. In fact, there is a post that explains the whole genesis of FR and details a great deal of how the funds are used. As far as a monthly or quarterly report, I am not sure about that. Jim and John have plenty on their hands just running the site.
As far as marketing FR and, more importantly, advancing the conservative cause, we could do more. We have to give a prospective reader/FREEPER/donor value (which should be the root of any marketing effort). We have to show that FR is the place where you can read it all (political, humor, whatever). We have to show that spending 15 or 30 minutes reading stories is worth coming to the site. We have to show that the commentary on the site is valuable.
I have taken a step upon myself to promote the conservative cause and, more specficially, FR. And, that is where it starts.
One thing that I do is take stories that are posted on FR and format them into a self-contained, fully-styled, clean HTML file. That file can then be sent via email to anyone and everyone in your address book. The email forwarding takes affect however it is going to take affect, depending on the reciever's mood.
In each file, I include the source reference to the story (where it was published orginally), another comment "For interesting commentary on this issue, click here" (with the "click here" being a link to the FR post), and another note that says, "If you want to read more of the truth, go to Free Republic.com".
I don't do it for every story, of course. But, for the "big" issues, I do it and usually tell all the FREEPERs within the post that I have created an HTML file that is available for emailing.
For example, when the whole "Joe Wilson" thing broke, FREEPER Wolfstar did an huge amount of research and wrote a post that detailed how the whole thing was and is a set up. I made that post into an HTML file for emailing and sent it to everyone I knew.
It is like a FR ping, but it is in email and has the story of note included. I think this is a very effect and viral way of propogating the stories and promoting FR.
It is really a matter of convenience and presentation. If we can't get the folks to come to FR, we have to go to them (via email). Most importantly, we are getting the truth out; giving FR a mention and a link (or two) is opening the door and a bonus.

P.S. If anyone wants a copy of the HTML (htm, actually) template file, shoot me a FREEP mail with an actual email address. I completely respect people's privacy and don't use any email addresses I recieve in any way.
You will need some HTML skills and/or a decent editing program (I recommend Dreamweaver). The changes that need to be made usually are inserting the text of the story, changing the title within the TITLE tag, and updating the links for the story. It really isn't that difficult.

Yepper. I am hoping that my efforts do two things. One, that people will see how evil liberals are and how they really, at their core (whether they know it or not), are destroying our country. And, two, to get people to this site and start to fight against media bias and liberalism.
