Everybodys up in arms over the new procedure requiring foreign visitors arriving at airports from most countries to provide a fingerprint and get photographed, ABCs Diane Sawyer insisted at the top of Mondays Good Morning America. Everybody? On Monday night, CBSs Dan Rather referred to the policy as controversial, as did NBCs Katie Couric on Today that morning before reminding Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge that some countries...are furious at this new policy with a judge in Brazil comparing the new security plans to Nazi horrors saying, 'I consider the act absolutely brutal, threatening human rights, violating human dignity, xenophobic and worthy of the worst horrors committed by the Nazis.
-- Sawyer announced at the start of the January 5 GMA: Foreign visitors are going to be fingerprinted at airports. It starts today. Everybodys up in arms. Were going to ask: Is it going to do any good?
Later, setting up a segment with Tom Ridge, who appeared via satellite from the Atlanta airport, Sawyer called the new rules controversial as she asserted: And now we turn to the terrorism threat against the United States. Will the alert level be lowered? And what about those controversial new security measures at the nations airports. Starting today, as youve heard, foreign travelers, at least some of them, will be fingerprinted, photographed and then checked quickly for criminal history and terrorist affiliation.
-- Over on NBCs Today, MRC analyst Geoffrey Dickens noticed, Couric proclaimed: "Good morning. Welcome to the U.S.! Now get ready for your mugshot. The U.S. kicks off a new program today for foreign visitors."
Matt Lauer soon elaborated: "We should mention that a lot of foreign visitors traveling to the U.S. today are gonna have their fingerprints scanned and their photographs taken. This is all part of an effort to tighten U.S. borders." Couric chimed in: "That's right it's pretty controversial as you can imagine. We're gonna find out more this morning from Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. I'll also ask him how long the nation will stay under Code Orange."
News reader Ann Curry repeated the controversial mantra: "More now on the new security measures taking effect today. Starting this morning foreigners coming to the U.S. will be digitally fingerprinted and photographed to screen for potential terrorists. Exempt are citizens from 28, mostly European nations. A matter of controversy in countries not exempted. Brazil is photographing and fingerprinting U.S. citizens in retaliation."
Interviewing Ridge, Couric intoned: "Some countries, as you know Secretary Ridge, are furious at this new policy, specifically Brazil which has started to do the same to U.S. visitors to that country. A Brazilian judge said, compared the new security plans to Nazi horrors saying, 'I consider the act absolutely brutal, threatening human rights, violating human dignity, xenophobic and worthy of the worst horrors committed by the Nazis.' How do you respond to that?"
-- Dan Rather introduced the January 5 CBS Evening News story: The United States is beginning to fingerprint and photograph some international travelers in an effort to prevent terrorists from entering the country. Starting today, when they arrived at U.S. airports from abroad, some foreigners are being required to submit to this new screening to determine whether they have a criminal background. CBS News correspondent Bob Orr has details of these controversial and unprecedented security measures.

You know, the Rats were complaining we weren't doing enough to protect the homeland.
Now we're doing too much.

Hey, how about this? If you don't like having your picture taken, stay right where you are. Controversial - hah. No one would say "Boo!" if this happened on 9/12. The media forget so soon.
To: FlyLow
I want one - just one - liberal to be stupid enough to use the word 'Nazi' in my prescence.

Disgusting! The millions of people who actually endured the "Nazi horrors" would gladly trade the experience for being fingerprinted and photographed.
To: FlyLow
Remember Couric, we're at war. Take a pill, lie down and get over it.

So?
The judge in Brazil which by the way finger prints all US Citizens and was doing so before it was started here can Shut The(Kerry word)Up! And how many countries in South America harbored NAZIs trying to hide from justice for crimes against civilization, including Brazil Judge?
As to the rest of them in the alpoMedia well, ... what do you expect from supporters of MoveOn.org and A.N.S.W.E.R.?

So, if I go to Brazil, I'll get my picture and fingerpriints taken. If I have nothing to hide, this does not concern me. I accept it as the price I pay to enter their country. What the hell is wrong with that?

What the hell is wrong with that? Brazil takes your picture and prints so that your headless body/bodyless head will be easier to identify once the Leftist guerillas dump it.

Sounds like there is the usual disconnect between the 'elites' in the media and 'ordinary' Americans who think our govt SHOULD know who is coming into our country.
Thank God I am 'ordinary,' and not burdened with the superior grasp of the security situation of America as these 'elites' are.

I have been to Brazil. In sober truth, it is Brazilian judges who are reminiscent of Nazi horrors.

How fortunate for me that I do not now, or ever, plan to go to Brazil.
To: maica
How is this different?
I seem to recall having my fingerprints taken years ago when I came to this country for my permanent alien registration card.
Gee, and then I had to take that real hard test to become a citizen. Lots of probing question on that application. Have you ever been a member of the Nazi party? or the Communist party? I'll bet that they have a section added on now for Al-Quada.
So where is the beef.

Right... We want proof of identity before allowing people from countries into the USA. And that's "worthy of the worst horros committed by the Nazis," like the mass murder of more than 12 million civilians, the vivisection of living prisoners for "medical experiments," the use of human fat for soap, skin for souvineer lampshades, hair for mattresses, and lets not forget the gold out of teeth...
Yup, it's the same as demanding an electronic scan of a fingerprint and a digital photo...

The beef is in perky Katie's mind, purely because it is a Bush administration plan.
Do you remember the mockery over Tom Ridge and "duct tape?" Some 'elite' reporter went to the website called ready.gov (or something like that), saw duct tape listed as a handy item and immediately started to mock the whole readiness message.
Now ask yourself how many American households have a roll of duct tape on hand. Probably most households do. Those arrogant supercilious media-types want to mock George Bush, but they just do not get it! They are mocking Americans and Americans are responding with more activism than these 'elites' ever imagined.
