Twitcher's cat eats robin

By CHRIS RICHES

A RARE robin landed in Britain from Norway — and was eaten by a birdwatcher’s cat.

The exhausted creature — one of only eight seen in this country in five years — had flown 400 miles in 15 hours.

But a birdwatcher was horrified to see her pet with the bird dead in its mouth in her garden.

The unnamed woman wrote to the British Trust of Ornithology to record the sighting — and confess her cat had killed the striking Norwegian robin.

The woman, of Eccles, Gtr Manchester, also enclosed the bird’s stamped ring, attached by experts in Stavanger, Norway, to study migration habits.

The trust said yesterday: “It flew all this way only to be a cat’s lunch.”

The Scandinavian birds have darker red breasts than British counterparts.

The trust added: “They are beautiful, very striking. It is a gruelling trip for them to get here. This is such a sad story.”

What this bird watcher needs now is a cat watcher.

The trust said yesterday: “It flew all this way only to be a cat’s lunch.”

The cat said: "Taste like chicken. Robin, the other white meat."

Perhaps this cat should be interned in a PETA carnivore re-education camp.

I am reminded of the scene in "Dumb and Dumber", where at a fundraiser for the last two snowy owls, one is killed by a champagne cork...

Cats eat birds. It's what they do in the wild. Don't want your cat to kill birds? Keep it inside.

Who killed Kirk Robin?

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought this was a Three Stooges thread.

I would go off on my "feral cat" routine about now, cept I am tired of getting flamed by the cat lovers of america, who think they can let there dear cat "fluffy" run all night, breed under my window, spray on my doors, and quote me what they think is their constitutional right to feed these predators...

Well fed, tanned and rested house cats are songbird killing machines.

That's why, if you have a cat, YOU SHOULD KEEP IT IN YOUR DAMNED HOUSE!!!

Cats are God's creatures, too!

In fact, they cull out the stupid birds and the weak birds, and improve the stock of those birds. Bird population is limited by territorial availability, so a dead bird is replaced by another (smarter?) one who would otherwise have no territory.

(DOMESTIC) Cats are God's creatures, too!

In fact, they cull out the stupid (WILD) birds and the weak (WILD) birds, and improve the stock of those birds.

I provided a link in my previous post with documented evidence for my position that DOMESTIC cats are not ordinary WILD bird predators, but rather well-fed super-predators who kill not for food, but for the sheer pleasure of killing.

Could you kindly provide documentation for your position that cats are simply ordinary predators who have no effect whatsoever on songbird populations, other than to make them better?

Or at least tell me where you got your degree in Population Biology.

I don't disagree with your argument that domestic cats kill to satisfy their inherent love of hunting, rather than for food. However, a bird killed for food and a bird killed for 'pleasure' have the same effect on the population dynamics, so what's your point?

Oh, whoopee!

You found a bunch of junk science processed by human-hating eco-fascists.

Who peer reviewed the work? The Marxists over at the UN's International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources or the luddites in the deep ecology blood and soil cult?

The point is, an old lady feeding fifteen cats in her garage can wipe out all the songbirds for six blocks in any direction.

This is why I keep a box trap in my yard baited with cat food, and any cats that I catch get taught how to "swim."

I know that snag-toothed hillbillies find all reading material to be suspect (not that you read it or even know how to read).

Sorry to bother you with it.
