Bush to Give Illegals SS Benefits January 06 2004 03:29:00 PM EST

President Bush is set to present his immigration proposal Wednesday. WASHINGTON, Jan 06, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- President Bush wants to let some of the eight million illegal aliens in the United States move toward legal status without penalty -- but with benefits. His proposals, part of a sweeping change in U.S. immigration policy, will be revealed Wednesday, the Washington Times reported.

Bush will propose that illegal aliens from Mexico, and possibly other countries, who pay U.S. Social Security taxes, but provide false identification numbers, be allowed to collect benefits.

"The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers," said White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan Monday.

The plan is expected to be opposed by Republicans on Capitol Hill, but it will be embraced by Mexican President Vicente Fox when he meets Bush during a Jan. 12-14 meeting in Monterrey, Mexico.

The changes have long been advocated by Fox, whose close relationship with Bush has been strained since border security efforts were beefed up after the Sept. 11 attacks and since Mexico refused to support the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

Fox said the plan would allow Mexicans "to go and come each year as many times as they want, without problems, so that they can work with documents in the United States."

Well, I wish you hadn't made it. It really doesn't help things. Your post would have been just fine without the personal attacks.

However, the person who you replied to was a returning bannee.

I am not sure what his game is, but I know enough to know that he was playing a role there. Probably to stir up crap, to rile people and draw flames. He baited, and you bit.

But he's gone. Again.

What's your opinion of this proposed move by President Bush?

I think he is saving the country from the outside and with this proposition destroying it from the inside.

I cannot this as anything other than a play for 8 million votes.....its disgusting.

The rule of law cannot be kept around if the laws are bad or misapplications are permitted to continue - because soon everyone will realize that is the case. Quite frankly, to persist in enforcing bad laws and REFUSING to correct them is a very quick way to convince the governed to no longer consent to continued tenure in office come the election.

Enforcing bad laws? The govt isnt enforcing the law. It would be more accurate to say, in regards to illegal immigration, that the govt is rewarding the law breakers. No law, no matter how good or worthy, could withstand that.

I am not participating in this debate. But, in general I take a wait and see approach. The devil is usually in the details. But I can't say I am pleased with the gist of these trial balloons.

I've seen enough to know that it doesn't work for people trying to OBEY it, either.

It seems certain folks don't want to admit that reinstating a guest worker program is one of the things that need to be done to fix the mess.

"The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers,"

That's the Bush Immigration Doctrine right there.

Since I have your ear, I will vent to you within the parameters of your imposed speech restrictions.

I am disgusted. For the first time in Bush's Presidency I have the same sick-to-my-stomach feeling that was a regular occurrence between 1992-2000.

Ellis Island? Close it as this amnesty proposal dishonors the memory of those who sacrificed everything but their lives to start anew in this country. And while we are there lets go ahead and move the Statue of Liberty to the Rio Grande.

This is not your father's United States of America anymore, and Bush isn't a conservative leader anymore.

I'm happy that I was proved wrong on this point. Today. Let's see what tomorrow brings when the proposal is released and the spin starts.

"Get it? An Amnesty would give these people Green Cards. That isn't what is being proposed, at all."

No, but they are getting a different kind of work permit/visa.

It's a different way to skin the cat.

Problem: millions of illegal aliens here in the US.

Solutions:
1. Remove them from the US.
2. Declare them legal.
3. Sweep the problem under the rug.

#2, no matter how you shake it, is a form of amnesty.

ANY COMPLETE SOLUTION TO OUR IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS HAS TO INCLUDE STRICTER ENFORCEMENT OF THE IMMIGRATION LAWS. Otherwise, the problem of illegal immigration will never end.

I'm not saying it NEVER happened...an AMERICAN can do identity theft also.

What state do you live in where your landscaper is NOT Mexican...or the painting company...or the roofing company...etc. They do GREAT work.

Yah thats what's shutting down the emergency rooms.

No, the first thing we need to do is start enforcing the law. We dont need amnesty nor do we need the definition of the word amnesty for those of you who prefer doublespeak.

We didnt have a significant problem until we started granting amnesties.

Another self-inflicted domestic issue failure for GWB, and another huge win for Liberal Socialism in America. Just frickin' great.

Were seeing a completely new kind of RINO with this president. Its nothing new for RINO executives to cave to demands of a liberal dominated legislative branch. Now we have a RINO who actively promotes a liberal agenda that no democrat has even wet-dreamed about!! Social Security for Illegals!!!
