Will you settle for a not-available-in-stores collection of Motown's Greatest Hits from K-Tel hearing this case?

No. If I can't have the Supremes I want the Platters.

You sure Frost is toast??

If he runs against Joe Barton, he is.

The heavily Democrat "stop six" area of Fort Worth is now in Eddie Bernice Johnson's district.

The rest of it (Arlington, Mansfield and the Mid-Cities) is dead-cold Republican. And is now represented by Joe Barton.

Martin will have to move before the March primary if he wants to run in another district.

Court OKs Texas redistricting

01:56 PM CST on Tuesday, January 6, 2004

Associated Press

AUSTIN — A three-judge federal panel on Tuesday approved a Republican-backed redistricting map designed to bolster the GOP's strength in Texas' congressional delegation.

The decision, which comes after a December trial, was a blow to Democrats who have worked for the better part of the year to block the GOP's efforts.

The map could put as many as seven additional Republicans in Texas' congressional delegation, in which Democrats currently hold a 17-15 advantage.

GREAT!!!!

I was just at a Republican club meeting (here in Austin) where Greg Abbott was speaking and the news hadnt come in yet. It was a bit worrying that the court was taking so long, he expected it by new years... I guess it took a while to write the opinions.

It will be cool to see the new map elect some more conservatives ...

You do know that Lloyd is carpetbagging over to 25 CD and running aganst some south Texas hispanic to hold on to a seat? You'll have to pry him out of Congress with a crowbar.

You sure we couldn't just duct-tape him to that Civil War memorial statue on the Capitol lawn? I'm thinking that if he doesn't leave quitely, we could at least use him as a paintball target.

You sure Frost is toast??

Certainly his district is. His district has been divided among several new ones, taking away any reasonable likliehood he'd win any one of them. He can shop around for another district, but it will be a challenge.

What the media won't report is that the Republican districting plan is likely to increase minority representation (assuming one buys into the assumption that minority representation can only come from someone of that minority - I do not), especially Hispanic. Before, Martin Frost's gerrymandering (and he was the principal architect in 1990) put a lot of Hispanics and African-Americans together to make guaranteed Democrat districts, but with the only viable compromise candidates being 'white' Democrats. And of course, Frost packed Republicans as densely as possible into as few districts as possible. Now, the districts are drawn so that (mostly) Anglo Republicans will replace some Anglo Democrats, and Hispanics Democrats will likely replace other Anglo Democrats.

The key is, Anglo Dem Frost is very likely to be looking for a job.
