Um........he's not being a phony. Many Pakis originally did come from Afghanistan, decades or centuries ago. Others came from India, Iran and even other nations.

Psst... the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is an artifical colonial border created by the British for the purpose of politically dividing the indigenous peoples... as others have mentioned, there is nothing inconsistent with being a Pakistani with Afghan roots.
