French Divers Find Egypt Crash Flight Recorder. Agency Says

Jan. 6 — CAIRO (Reuters) - French divers have located a flight recorder and the exact position of the plane which crashed into the Red Sea killing all 148 people on board, Egypt's official Middle East News Agency said Tuesday, quoting French sources. The divers located the wreckage by detecting the signal which the flight recorders emit, it said.

French officials were not immediately available to confirm the report.

The Paris-bound flight, carrying 133 French tourists and 15 other people, crashed Saturday into deep waters off the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

A French official said Tuesday that salvage workers may have detected a signal from the "black box" flight recorder.

A "black box," which records technical data about the flight and conversations between pilots, should help explain what caused the crash.

France said Monday it attached little credence to a previously unknown Islamic group's claim to have brought down the plane. Egypt has ruled out an attack.

I heard this a few minutes ago on CNN.

They are also reporting that four on board were American. Unknown whether they were crew or pax.

French divers have located a flight recorder

And four clearly heard words came from the flight recorder, "only a mechanical problem."

Nothing to see hear. Isn't is fascinating how this crash has disappeared nearly completely from our news outlets! This is a stone coverup, and it is nothing new, they're just getting more brazen about it.

I'm guessing a possible hit on Tony Blair. We won't know anything for 10 years if ever.

It is very obvious that we are interested in such cover up. If it is proven that the Egyptians crashed the plain, then Egypt will have no tourism, and its economy will collapse, and the same for its government. This will definitely will lead to a fundamentalist fanatic regime. The population is mostly fanatic anyway, and it has been a struggle to keep them moderate. I feel for the 15% Christian minority in Egypt if the fanatic Moslems take over.

Hmmm, very interesting. Yesterday it was reported that all passengers were French except for one Moroccan and one Japanese, and that all crew were Egyptian.

Remember EgyptAir flight 990? The one that crashed into water off Long Island shortly after take-off from JFK? That plane was taken down by its Egyptian co-pilot, killing all 217 on board.

EgyptAir's flight 990's co-pilot had a secret contract with AlQaida to destroy the plane. The purpose? To kill a group of Egyptian policemen who were on their way home after receiving anti-terrorist training in the U.S.

(This is according to John Loftus on the John Batchelor radio show. Who knows if he's right this time?)

Amazing. It's loopy to suggest, "I know it's terrorism," as the tin-hat crowd here is doing, but it's just as loopy to suggest, as authorities including the Prez of Egypt have, "I know it's mechanical."

In fact, what we know is that there are insufficient data to support any theory at this time, and for the forseeable future investigators will have to gather more data.

Finding the recorder is nice, but now they have to find the other one (depending on the degree of damage to the tail, it may be nearby) and -- and this will be the tough nut to crack -- recover it from the depths. This will likely take weeks.

The recorders will probably be brought to the USA to be read and the data analyzed. How much of the wreckage will be recovered may depend on those findings,
