Texas Tech coach Mike Leach should be fired if he didn't discipline his thug players after such a disgraceful act. But I doubt he cared, since he had his team run up the score with a fleaflicker play very late in the game(they beat Navy 38-14.)
Trash is trash.

Sounds like something a bunch of Aggies would do, but then again thinking 11 out of 11 Aggies could remember what to do?

I agree.
They did not offend the gods of campus political correctness, though...of course if they whistled at some cheerleaders, well by thunder there'd be CONSEQUENCES!!!!/sarcasm off

What a classless act. When I saw it, I couldn't believe the total lack of respect shown to the Midshipmen.
My first thought was a keel hauling would wipe the goofy smiles off their faces, but quick.

College pranks need to get a bit a pass.
When IL basketball coach got a rug for his head, students at opposing arenas would throw carpet samples out during the pregame.
The Stanford band got banned from entering Oregon for 10 years by the Oregon legislature for doing a half time skit where they sawed down a tree and shot a spotted owl (not a real owl)
One school had a bobby knight chair throwing contest at halftime.
Yeah, it is in poor taste but no big deal really.
Crying about it sounds as bad as when some disadvantaged person starts crying about some insult he/she received.
the lingerie bowl getting canceled was stupid too. (girl models in lingerie were going to play "football" in some super bowl stunt).

This was not a prank. It was an insult to our military men and women. They'll get no pass from me.

its a football game. they did something stupid but lets hope those brave sailors don't fall down and cry their eyes out....
please. Sounds like someone wants to make a big deal out of something that isn't, sounds like someone is really mad about the touchdown.

It was an insult to our military men and women.and those military men and women are probably mature enough not to give these stupid players the satisfaction of making a stink about the antic.

Some people might think that "the lingerie bowl" is an insult to all women of substance, maybe even your mom, daughter or sister.
I think it is no big deal.
Some people might think that the affirmative action bake sales are insulting to minorities ( cookies sell for different prices depending on your race).
I think it is no big deal.

Coach Leach was livid with his players in his post-game interview, and apologized for his team. I suspect that he offered a formal apology to USNA afterward.

What they did was wrong. Sadly, I've seen this stunt pulled alot of times before, but they should have used common sense and not done this to Navy. I always thought it was dumb and usually I just preferred the spike.

I'm sure they are mature enough to ignore a bunch of punks pulling a juvenile stunt. ESPN should start a new series,
Jackasses, The Team.
BTW, did Texas Tech pull this stunt on any other team they played this year? Or did they dream it up for Navy?

They didn't dream it up, I think it started years back, other teams have donr it. Its stupid, and not original.

Thanks for explaining that, I'm glad to hear that Leach wasn't happy with what happened. Especially since I've always like his down-to-earth approach(he's a hoot to listen to in interviews), he's well-suited for Texas Tech. Still, that was pretty tacky to runup the score at the end with a fleaflicker.

Peter King's attempt to besmirch all of Texas as anti-military or insensitive to the miliitary and to call it "bush league" couldn't be more clear. Texas Tech is disgraceful, but King's commentary is the typical liberal BS. If a school in the NE or CAlifornia did this to NAVY, WE WOULDN'T have heard about it and their would have been no clever attempts to brand a Democrat with it.

After a Tech touchdown, the Red Raiders players gathered in a circle in the end zone. The ball was thrown in the air and when it hit the turf, all the players fell to the ground, as if the ball were a bomb. A pretty stupid and unfeeling celebration regardless, but against Navy? When the seniors on that team, some of them anyway, are about to be sent into the conflict in Iraq? That was bush-league all the way.
lol they copied any given sunday (football movie with al pacino)
look if you ask me if i played in NCAA football id do stupid TD dances too just because nine times outta ten your playing for nothing till you get to the NFL the BCS is a joke and cruel one at that,

It just happens that I was once on the faculty at Texas Tech and I continue to maintain close ties with my old department. It also happens that my brother, serving with the 4th ID in Iraq, was wounded by an IED in Baghdad on Christmas Eve. He is OK, but it shouldn't require any great leap of the imagination to understand my feelings about the endzone incident.
Mike Leach is a fair and reasonable man. I can assure you that he is furious at the players involved, and plans to deal properly with them. It isn't over by any means. He is also not beyond taking part of the responsibility himself, though he did not know in advance that this was planned. It is his responsibility, in fact, and I am prepared to let him handle it.
Unfortunately, our football program has a history of "no class" behavior, though more often from fans than from players. I hope that the extremely negative reaction to this particular incident will bring the realization that it is unwise to seek the public eye, then amuse oneself by sticking a middle finger into that eye.
