[Moderator's note: threads regarding immigration issues and border issues have been spiralling out of control for some time on Free Republic. This is going to change. Fair warning: this would be a very poor thread to engage in flame warring, flame baiting, or otherwise being needlessly instigative. If you have not yet read this thread, you may want to before engaging in the debate on this or other similar threads. If there are any questions regarding the new scrutiny of these threads, please take them to that thread rather than cluttering up these threads. So far, people have been very cooperative with this effort, and for that I am grateful. Thanks, and happy Freeping.]

President Bush will propose immigration law changes to allow workers from Mexico to enter the United States if they have jobs waiting for them, officials said Monday in previewing an election-year measure intended to bolster support among Hispanic voters.

Advocacy groups were invited to the White House on Wednesday to hear details of the program.

"The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. "It's important for America to be a welcoming society. We are a nation of immigrants, and we're better for it."

Immigration advocacy groups characterized Bush's move as a politically drawn effort to curry favor with Hispanics, a potent political force, particularly in key states like Florida, California and border states. Two sources speaking on condition of anonymity said Bush would outline a set of principles rather than a detailed piece of legislation, and that the policy statement would draw on bills already pending in Congress.

"It looks very much like a political effort and what they do with these `principles' is going to determine whether this is really a policy initiative or not," said Cecilia Munoz, vice president for policy at the National Council of La Raza. "The Latino community knows the difference between political posturing and a real policy debate."

She said the initiative was crafted by Bush's political strategist, Karl Rove, and that the immigration policy community was excluded from the deliberations.

"We know of no one in the immigration policy community, business groups or Latino groups who has been consulted," she said.

Cute picture, wench. I'd be proud to claim him as my son and so would you.

I've seen a thousand more just like him who will never stand a chance in life until their home country gets reformed. Kindly remember only a fortunate few make it across our borders. Do we ignore the rest, the ones who stay at home and hope their countries improve?

I saw some of the earlier posts between you and various moderators about your objection to the "shoot, shovel, and shut up" crowd. Would you have the same objections if I espoused that treatment for the political pissants who keep this kid in an intolerable life?

I don't think so, Chani. If you and I identified the bastards simultaneously, it would be a race to see who snuffed them first and neither one of us would blink once, think twice, or lose any sleep over it. You would be wiping your blade on my shirt sleeve with a self-satisfied smirk while I grinned like the Cheshire Cat.

Am I right?

These issues are totally different from issues of immigration. Supposedly no legal immigrant or native born citizen will ever commit a violent crime or join a gang or become a prostitute at 10.

No, Che. I wouldn't be a party to politically-motivated murder. Conservatives are big on hope, not hopelessness and violence as a tool to effect political change.

Goodnight, the alarm rings in 3 hours and I've lost interest in this debate with all the deflection in your answers...

Gawd what a laugher. Just can't admit you are wrong when confronted with the FACTS can you? I can understand why you are so easily bamboozled by political personalities. You are driven entirely by emotions.

Nice slogan.

War on Terror.

Reconcile.

A lot of employers who would not hire illegals because it was illegal will now be hiring lots of them.

Non-ideologues do not equate a corrupt oligarchy ruling a multi-party democracy such as Mexico with a tyrannical terrorist state such as Saddam's Iraq.

But avoiding the draft is different?

Yes, it is. This issue concerns American Citizens not Foreign Nationals. The legal status of Foreigners is dependent on the underlying, controlling immigration laws which, as I said, is under the purview of Congress.

Remember folks - if the illegals in the country today "deserve" amnesty, so will the illegals who arrive next year or five years from now. So if Bush Jr. gets away with this one, that's it. Amnesties will be a permanent part of our our political landscape, enacted with increasing frequency until the Federal Government just saves itself the bother by granting automatic rights-of-residence to entire countries and blocks of countries.

Yeah, right, girl.

I don't want to be standing in the way if you ever find yourself standing in defense of that kid. I'd be a couple of pounds of sliced bologna passed off as collateral damage. And rightfully so.

Nor was I doing so, though your bank shot strawman was not unanticipated.

You posted a slogan, "Conservatives are big on hope, not hopelessness and violence as a tool to effect political change."

In the War on Terror, conservatives who are big on hope are using violence as one of several tools to effect political change.

You have a contradiction. Discuss.

That's a bald face lie and you know it. The fact is that your whole argument is based purely on speculation and you are a professional at it. What gets old is your inability to post a single quote by this President that remotely resembles your claims, and you can't produce a single proposal that backs up your baseless claims.

It's the truth, but I'm not inclined to run through our posts for the past year and a half to demonstrate it to you.

Baseless? We'll see.

I asked you a question in post #162 and you ignored it, and you and I know why, you just can't admit it

This question?

"Can you post a single road trip where Bush "pushed" for 245(i) ?"

It's a silly question. You established a false premise at #162 that we know of the President's doings by his road trips, and consequently, that the absence of a road trip equalled evidence of the absence of some activity. This is formally known as an argument from ignorance fallacy.

It's called playing politics with a touchy issue, meanwhile we have seen more deportations than ever, the borders are a bit tighter and eventually we will see stiff penalties placed upon employers who hire illegals.

To you have sources to back up your claim of "more deportations than ever" having occured?

Thanks for the link to GOPUSA. I hadn't been there for awhile.

Did you read the Editor's scathing comment about Bush's changes to the Republican Party Platform or what he'll do in November in response to a Bush/Rove call for amnesty for illegal aliens?

You just have to admire political 'stratgery' that alienates the editor of a site that calls itself GOPUSA. Not!

I knew I wasn't alone when I said I missed the 'good old days' of GRIDLOCK, but I didn't know that as much as 13% of the Republican core was waxing nostalgic RIGHT along with me.

LOL!

"WE ARE A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS. "

No, we are a nation of laws. When our government officials do not enforce the laws that we elected them to enforce then they are betraying the trust we placed in them.

I contemplated throwing a flag on the "active conspiracy" part of that reply. It would help if we kept things relatively sane with our rhetoric. I decided to not say anything though, allowing for a bit of hyperbole.

Seeing you pick it up and echo it, Joe, convinced me to throw the flag.

If we encourage all those millions of illegal aliens to deport themselves, who's going to claim all those billions in huge EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT CHECKS they steal from the U.S. Taxpayers every year?

What's going to happen to all those billions Bush has busted the budget to squander on educating millions of illegal alien children at $7,000 a head?

Bush will have to give it back to the U.S. Taxpayers, that's what! I mean really, you've got a lot of nerve this morning.

Who's going to rob the FHA's buyers assistance programs blind, if all the illegal aliens go home?

Who's going to commit all their Welfare, Food Stamp, Social Security and emergency room fraud?

We need these illegal aliens willing to commit fraud to be connected up to these government programs that are equally willing no, eager to be defrauded.

How will we ever pile up the federal, state and local debt fast enough to destroy our country without millions and millions of extra free-loaders and their anchor babies?

LOL!
