I think there is a big difference between what we "the government" and we "the people" know about explosive materials found in the TWA flight that blew up off Long Island a few years ago.

I ran the numbers on the size of 12 oz cylinder of C4 from this website:
http://www.ribbands.co.uk/prdpages/C4.htm A 12 oz volume of C4 would equal a cylinder 2 inches in diameter by 10.5 inches long.
12oz X 28gm/oz / 1.63gm/cm*3 = 206 cm*3 / 6.25 cm*3/in*3 = 32.96 in*3
Assuming a 2 inch diameter = 3.14in*2, /32.96in*3 = 10.49 inches long.

Eight ounces could. After take off the bomber would place the explosive in critical areas of the aircraft, such as the hydrolic and control cable (fly by wire like the Airbus) runs, above a fuel cell, 8 ounces of plastique against the cockpit door will probably take it and the crew out. In short if you can get it on board and are willing to lose your life, you can take down.

Unfortunately for us all, I think I know the answer. The government will nationalize all the airlines and we'll end up with Amflight.Am-Air-ican?

Forget about the need for a battery or a watch, all she has to do is light it like the shoe bomber. But it will look a little strange.

So exactly what would the rest of the passengers be doing while this person is strolling around placing this stuff throughout the cabin and setting fuses??? Reading the Wall Street Journal??

The device will not be spread around the plane. In one place it is enough to rip the side of the aircraft out and cause the plane to go out of control and crash.
As to the size and length of 8 - 12 ozs of C4 I can assure you there is plenty of room for that amount at the extreme end to be packed in the "average" Vagina.
It is just the thought that concerns me.
I must check next time!

I would have thought a padded bra would also have been used. It's normal for bras to set of metal detectors.

Not really, 12 oz of Semtex-H would be about 8 inches long by 1.5 inches in diameter.

Still snowing good at my house! Mine too. It's been alternating between very light small flakes and the larger stuff. Not much accumulation yet -- though they weren't predicting a lot.

I was speaking of potential areas. choose only one. The bomber would not look suspicious. Calmly walk to the explosion point (you would look like any other passenger that is walking about the cabin) placement and explosion of the plastiqe could be done in mere seconds. It would probably still be in the bombers hands when he or she sets it off.

US security services told Scotland Yard the woman - almost certainly linked to al-Qaeda - intended to hide eight to 12 ounces of plastic explosive in her vagina.
