Do Not Post Images From Rotten.com and Foo.ca

[history]
Hello everyone.
Occasionally we have had to point this out to people on threads, but I don't think the word is getting around because it keeps happening.
Some Freepers like posting images on Free Republic, which is fine by me. Some are absolutely hilarious.
And some Freepers like to go to Rotten.com to look at the graphics there, and then decide to post them to threads here.
The problem is that Rotten.com hates us, and hates conservatives. Whoever it is over there likens us to nazis.
When one posts an image from rotten.com on a thread, it may look normal on that user's computer, if the image is in the user's cache. However, for all the other users, the image won't be what the poster intended. The rotten.com server sees that the img request came from Free Republic, and swaps it out with something else. Sometimes it is porn (of the more vile sort, to be honest). Sometimes it is a picture of a rotting corpse with some text calling us gun-freak nazis who love female corpses.
So please do us a favor, and yourself a favor too since others might think that you intended to post whatever graphic ends up being displayed, and avoid rotten.com when posting to Free Republic.
And if you want to still give them your traffic by visiting their site despite the fact that they hate your guts, that is your own business and I really couldn't care less.
Thanks!
Update: While Rotten.com does indeed do this to us, and while rotten.com was the source of the picture that was involved, the site that did the switch this time was foo.ca.
Here is the image they swapped:
Click to see it- warning, it is gross.
Given the name of the URL, I am guessing it was the pic of the lady golfer kissing the trophy she won.
Got a freepmail that has a good tip in it:
"When one posts an image from rotten.com on a thread, it may look normal on that user's computer, if the image is in the user's cache." A slick and foolproof way to avoid this problem with any site is to search for images with a different browser than the browser in which one is posting.
I search in Explorer and post in Safari. Nothing from Explorer goes into my Safari cache, so whatever image I preview in Safari will be exactly as the rest of the forum will see it. Works for all browsers and all websites. Also provides protection against the Red X, "hosted by tripod," etc.
I thought of posting this on the thread, but it's already 100 replies, and would probably get lost. Perhaps a re-edit wit this tip might be useful.
Thanks to the always helpful Sabertooth for that handy tip!

I bet NYC GOP Chick could field that question. ;D

That is the album art for the record "Quadrophenia" by The Who. Quadrophenia was a rock opera involving two gangs, the Mods and the Rockers.

Considering that there are certain sites that FreeRepublic doesn't want articles or images posted from, and considering that there are certain rules about excerpting articles from certain sites (Washington Post for one), let me suggest that FR put a list of these rules at the top of the page where we compose our posting comments.
I'm sure that would at least prevent a lot of confusion and at most prevent another lawsuit.
Sound like a good idea?

They do it deliberately.
I have a Leftist friend who told me about the site, and he saved a great Santa phots (funny, not gross) in his Favorites for several years. Never changed. Ever. I've done the same thing. Photos never changed. I suspect the FR connection and switch is deliberate.
Too bad they don't think there is anything wrong with exposing Christians or young adults to this crap.

Sounds like an ad for Rotten.com. I never heard of it before; they'll probably increase their hits exponentially!

Most people post some information about themselves on their homepage. Are you a computer? I didn't think computers could get "pissed off".

Then move on.
Would this make you a sleeper troll?
Why can't you appreciate that some find glorifying death akin to evil.

Thanks for the info.
Why would anyone get upset about this valuable post? It baffles me.

They would get upset that Free Republic couldn't be used as foolish tools to be laughed at behind our backs.
Glenn can no longer delight in linking to this thread and making fun of the unsuspecting.

Therefore, you are able to discern such a serious mistake and not punish the unwary poster? This could happen to any of us.

You didn't ask me, but I would answer "yes, rule posting on the perl/post page is a very good idea".

We don't want porn and decaying bodies on the forum. That being said, then how do we explain that FR is allowed to post pictures of Bill, Hillary and the Democrat's running for the Presidential nomination. Seems they fall under this category easily!
Anyone looking at Bill thinks PORN. Hillary and the others appear to have been rotting for some time...except for Ted Kenedy...he's fermenting! :)

Someone showed me a picture of Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford with Michael as a comparison. It was scary close to twins.
http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1073081436.JPG The above link is good for maybe 15 days. It is the picture I am talking about.

I made the mistake a few months back of letting my curiosity get the better of me and clicking on a link to a gross picture everybody was talking about. It turned out to be "tub girl". I won't make the same mistake again. Whatever it is you guys are looking at, I'll just rely on your descriptions.

I actually know the rotten.com guy, since he is a friend of a friend.
Extreme kneejerk liberal, through and through. I got into a rather heated argument with that idiot one day when he came into the office. I bothered to correct one of his numerous snide left-wing propaganda talking point assertions, which he loves to insert into everything he talks about. He started frothing and I had to tear him a new one and deconstruct his entire ideology in a stylish fashion in front of everyone else.
Moron. He avoids talking to me now if he sees me.
