Flu Vaccine a Failure 2003!

Flu Vaccine Not Working--CDC Admits. What are Your Options?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had two choices when it came down to which flu formula to use for winter 2003. Should they stick with the same formula used last year in 2002, knowing that a new strain of the bug was developing? Or should they attempt to make a new vaccine that could possibly come with complications or delays and that could result in a shortage?

The first sign of the new flu bug showed up just two weeks before the committee was scheduled to meet. The scientists who track the flu had noticed a new strain was gathering mass. The overall decision to bring back the older version was decided on the fact that there wasn’t enough time to produce a new flu vaccine.

The committee met this past February and was told that the current vaccine might not work in protecting people from the new strain.

Even though the committee voted 17-1 to bring back last year’s version, they all have admitted that they made the wrong decision.

The only malarky is your attitude and your lack of info.

CJD has a very long incubation time... if you know otherwise, please post your dissertation.

If your family is at risk, please get the vaccine. An elderly family member failed to get the vaccine. She is not hospitalized due to complications from her chronic disease.

Had she received the vaccine (and had family members informed me of her failure to get the vaccine) I would have interceded and prevented this debacle!

The conclusion is, of course........It is GW's fault and Tom Daschle is "OUTRAGED".

The best thing you can do is carry around that alcohol stuff for the hands, use it, wash hands frequently and avoid sitting around a hospital ER waiting room.

As for the efficacy of flu shots, the best way to study is to look at rates of infection and morbidity of hospital personnel, who are generally either required or strongly encouraged to get the shot. Sometimes people get the shot too late, come down with the flu and blame the shot. Sometimes the shot merely ameliorates the infection (you don't get as bad a case). Sometimes we don't know--but vulnerable people, particularly elderly, would probably be advised to stay vaccinated.

I tell them "Only if they want to get the flu

Not being a medical type I imagine a small percentage of people do get the flu from a flu shot, but I have received a flu shot every year since I can remember. First, starting as a young man, courtesy of Uncle Sam for 30 years, then on my own since and I have never had a case of flue as a result of the shot and honestly don't remember anyone else who received the shot getting it either other than a few minor symptoms appearing on an insignificant number of people.

I've never had a flu shot, either, and have never gotten the flu. I do have an very good immune system, apparently. With all the media hype over this year's flu outbreak, I was considering getting one this year, but by the time I got around to it, the vaccine had run out. Now nobody in my house has had the shot, or the flu, and the number of cases in the state is declining.

The flu vaccine is a killed vaccine. You can't get the flu from the vaccine.

Never could figure out why anyone would knowingly take one of these shots and "busy" their immune systems with a vaccine at a time when it may need to actually fight the flu.

I never get the flu shot. Nor do I ever take any medicine unless I really need it (such as antibiotics).

Most of the medicines/vaccines have potential side effects which are as bad or worse than the problem you're trying to fix.

I think the best thing one can do to prevent getting sick is to exercise good hygiene, such as always washing their hands before eating. It seems to have worked well for me.

LOL... hilarious!

This "ChicagoLady" has really spread massive disinfo in this thread. Perhaps, we should request the admin to pull it.

After all, they pull the thread where I discuss the on-going abuses of the Medi-Care system by hospital execs in California.

I guess tax payer losses of 15 million per year to off-shore bank accounts is not as important as perp'ing lies about vaccine safety.

LOL, this thread is proving getting the flu is a crap shoot. Some get the shot and get the flu. Others get the shot but don't get the flu. Some don't get the shot and don't get the flu and of course vice versus. Get out from behind the puter screen and get exposed to all those little germies out there and build up your immune system. Don't pick your nose or rub your eyes and wash your hands with regular soap. As with anything, ask yourself who's raking in the $$$ on flu shots.

Jim,

Here's another great thread ... I wonder if our "Chiropractor" expert is starting up again.

It's not a crap shoot.

The only crap shoot is not taking the vaccine when you have one available.

I took it, got exposed to the mutated virus, and got sick (like the rest of our town).

If we had done our damn jobs in October, the town wouldn't have gotten sick.

But, instead of getting vaccinated early, the town waited and waited and waited. Meanwhile, the vaccine was out of supply and we were deprioritized in the national distribution chain.

The Congress needs to investigate why only enough vaccine for 1/3 of the nation was made.

They NEVER get the vaccine correct.

Wash your hands frequently.
If you MUST have your children in day care, enroll them in as SMALL a "class" size as possible.
Rest & excercise are important to your immune system.
Eat well, low fat intake, plenty of water, fruits & vegetables.

If you feel the first signs of cold or flu, DON'T PUSH IT!
In addition to the above, irrigate sinuses, gargle w warm salt water,
increase tea intake (not herbal).

...please post your dissertation.

I presented my dissertation some 25 years ago. It was accepted and I got my Doc.

My response was to the implied assertion that vCJD=mad cow disease. There is no credible scientific evidence that this is so. I made no reference to incubation time or anything else.

I understand that you are a physician. Heal thyself.

I am 40 and get one every year. I have been fortunate and have not had the flu at all during that time. I think, however, that the most important thing I do is wash my hands and take care not to put my hands to my mouth, nose or eyes after shaking someone's hand.

1. Where's the reference to your paper?

2. I agree that vCJD does not equate to "mad cow".

3. I hope you also agree that CJD and BSE are transmissible and have an "incubation" time.

The Congress needs to investigate why only enough vaccine for 1/3 of the nation was made.

Congressional investigation?!?!? Oh, yeah, like they can resolve anything, much less before next flu season. What needs resolving is why not so many years ago we didn't have such flu scares but today we do. Pop a pill for this, get a shot for that and now there's so many new super bugs that medicine can't combat them. I'm all for medical advances, however too many of these so called advances are making our bodies weaker and more prone to life threatening diseases.

Don't think it's a crap shoot? Did you not read all the posts? This article isn't the first on the wrong flu vaccine. It's been reported for 3-4 months. This also isn't the first year the CDC has had to admit it's the wrong vacine, yet the lemmings are still rushing out to get them.
