Local news just flashed that an Egypt Airliner has crashed in Egypt...

Reporting majority of ~135 passengers are French tourists....

So stop trying to make everyone believe it was an accident when you have no factual basis for that claim-you don't know any more about the condition of this specific plane,its crew, and what happened than I do

Way back I have flown thru hurricanes in early unpressurized twin prop airliners and made it with no problemo. Worst trip: stewardesses crying, passengers going nuts, but we made it, but wingtip almost hit the airstrip at Lauderdale.

"Fog" is no big deal for a modern jetliner; windshear, icing, castrophic failure; that is different.

Egypt still denies that Egypt Air crashed by that Fruitcake of Islamics pilot was not a terrorist incident.

Also...this may or may not have an effect, but as the country of manufacture of the airplane, the USA has some sort of jurisdiction in the investigation (it's an ICAO thing, I'm not sure exactly how it all works). The Egyptian authorities never accepted the NTSB verdict on EgyptAir 990, that the relief pilot intentionally slammed the plane into the Atlantic. They tried to blame it on some kind of bizarre elevator malfunction, even after Boeing and the NTSB proved the only way they could get the elevator readings they got was to have one pilot pushing forward and one pilot pulling back on the yokes.

It should be interesting to see if Egypt wants our help on this.

Actually, fog matters a whole bunch. The worst ever plane crash, between 2 747-200's on the runway at Tenerife was partially due to fog. Also responsible for that crash was poor crew dynamics (in the KLM plane) poor communications from the tower to the KLM plane, fog (the Pan Am plane was on the active runway rolling to the take off position- no taxiways, fog obscured the end of the runway), terrorism (a bomb went off at Palma de Mallorca which closed the runway causing both planes to divert to PMI), fatigue (The PA crew had been flying over 12 hours) and problems in the airport tower.

Do some reading on plane crashes, oftentimes there are several factors. Did you know that the 737 has a bad record with rudder pedal problems? The USAir crash in Pittsburg and a United crash at Colorado Springs were due to rudder problems.....

Waaaay too early to pin a cause on this flight. Just remember, planes crash, and its always a tradgedy, no matter who is on board.

Rescue teams found the wreckage of the jet close to the coast. They were attempting to find survivors or bodies, according to an official quoted by the Egyptian news agency MENA.

Engineers from the national carrier Egyptair went to try to help determine what happened. Air Flash’s phone numbers in Cairo were busy.

The weather was clear in Sharm el-Sheikh and other flights were taking off without incident, officials said.

Engine out, you could dead stick back to the airport or ditch. Catastrophic failure-and immediate if there was no mayday sent.

Losing all engine power would still leave 90sec.-2 min.

It ended instantaniously by violence to the airframe. I would speculate elevator accident like Alaska Air, or bomb,missile terror. IMO

I offer prayers to all victims of plane crashes. You seem to think of the french as some type of lower beings that deserved this crash. I worked with a guy that was married to the captain of the Valu-Jet crash, not a good thing. I also worked with the brother of the commander of the Columbia Space Shuttle that destructed over Texas. Your cavalier attitude towards the death of innocent souls is bushleague and immature and ill advised.

We haven't heard yet if they were in communication with ATC or not. If ATC never heard a peep out of them before the plane dropped off radar, then maybe it's tinfoil time. Maybe. Maybe they never corrected the rudder reversal problem on their 737s and it bit them. Or, like you said, some neglected piece of maintenance that caused a catastrophic control failure. We'll just have to wait to hear more news to know.
