Brian Wilson on Special Report says U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall of Texas will be switching parties from Democrat to Republican. He is being pushed into a heavily GOP district with the new boundaries and he is known as a conservative Democrat. While it may not change that many votes, it will add one more "R" to the congressional makeup.

FYI....... Any news on the court case. Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of ruling today? I thought they were trying to meet the deadline for filing in the old districts.... If the new districts stand then filing a few days off.. ends Jan. 11 or there abouts.......
List of Filings Old Districts.. Congress
Interesting that a couple aren't on the list...... Hall and Turner....

One person changing parties won't affect votes and legislation passed measurably in the upcoming session.
However there is this "drip, drip, drip" effect. Congressional DP (democrat party) members begin realize they can't see a light at the end of the tunnel.(Where they will be in the majority again.)
Those who were in office during the days the DP was in the majority see that they may not have those perks amd chairmanships that go with being in control - perhaps for the rest of their lives.
It's at that time that retirement begins to look better, and we may see some major party members begin to retire.
Never getting your legislation passed has got to wear you down after awhile.
For that reason, I enjoy hearing the drip, drip, drip as the DP drains away.

Hall is a hardcore pro-life, pro-family conservative Dem (until today I guess), the last of a breed.

DPS, yes! While I'm not sure it's applicable in this instance, I really like the term, which I have shortened to its acronym because no catchy phrase or business makes it these days without becoming an acronym. :o)

In Texas, a conservative Democrate is not an oxymoron; in fact its commonplace. He had no need to switch.

Rep. Ralph Hall-D TX (NOW R-TX) was being challenged in the Dem Primary by Rep. Max Sandlin-D. Ole Max is my current congressman (District 1) & the repubs kicked him outta here in there new redistricting map. Thank goodness. We may get a Republican now. I have no idea who is running for the 1st District seat.

Rep Ralph Hall (D-TX) To Switch Parties Every time a conservative Southern Democrat switches parties, the Democrats become more liberal. Good news for the GOP.

I thought the court was supposed to rule today on that. What happened?

I don't know whether the court hinted they'd release their ruling today, or whether only pundits predicted it.
I'm not sure it matters.
The DOJ ruling makes the new GOP map the only legal map in existence and while an adverse ruling might have restored the old map, this court wasn't going to do that.
