Poetic...there should be a C & W song with that title.

Thank God that we have men like them on our side. We sleep safe at night, knowing they are on duty.

I'm just finishing reading "Marine Sniper" and read "One Shot One Kill" a few months ago.

As someone who loves reading about military technology and firepower, I'm now facinated with snipers who cause so much damage on the enemy with just one bullet...with ZERO or almost ZERO collateral damage.

Finally our military realizes the value of these warriors to keep permanent sniper training going.

A sniper is the ultimate warrior. A decent sniper can even take out (of action) enemy artillery. A lesson to be considered by those who sometimes advocate a civilian defense against any hypothetical enemy.

There is a lot positive to be said about the utilization of snipers.

1. It allows for the selective removal of important enemy targets. In other words, officers and NCO's, snipers, crew-served weapons crew members, etc.

2. It is an effective psychological warfare tool. The suddeness (and unexpectedness) of having a team-mate drop dead next to the other enemy soldiers is very unsettling and prone to cause anxiety.

3. It minimizes, even eliminates, the loss of life for non-combatants. In other words, it minimizes indiscriminate violence.

Most snipers are familiar with firearms even before joining the armed forces. Davis and Wilson grew up on farms, and both owned their first rifles before they were 10. They fondly remember hunting deer as youngsters.

Heads at the NEA are pulling double-duty as ceiling fans as we speak! For individuals like Davis and Wilson, Army sniper school hones skills learned over a decade or more in youth. Thanks to our education, legal, and media institutions, how many families are left in this country that can bring up young men and women with the brains, character, and moral fiber to competently handle deadly firearms before they have seen 10 years on earth?

As one of these snipers points out, there isn't much risk of collateral damage, if you have well-trained, capable people. You don't want any Lon Horiuchis, but he was basically the kind of guy who rises to the top under bill clinton and janet reno. A real sniper is able to kill the bad guy and do no harm to anyone else.

Liberals, no doubt, would prefer bombing civilian targets in Belgrade from 20,000 feet, because that way you don't have to look at the people you kill. Never mind that almost all the victims of clinton's wars were innocent civilians.

Which shows that the maintence of the "gun culture" is a matter of national security. In previous times this was understood. The NRA was founded to improve the marksmanship of future soldiers, by Yankee Generals after their mostly city raised troops turned in a generally poor performance as compared to that of the Southern country boys.
