Scientists Closely
Monitoring Yellowstone

Recent eruptions, 200 degree ground temperatures, bulging magma and 84 degree water temperatures prompt heightened srutiny of park's geothermal activity...

BILLINGS, Mont. -- Yellowstone National Park happens to be on top of one of the largest "super volcanoes" in the world. Geologists claim the Yellowstone Park area has been on a regular eruption cycle of 600,000 years. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago making the next one long overdue. This next eruption could be 2,500 times the size of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption. Volcanologists have been tracking the movement of magma under the park and have calculated that, in parts of Yellowstone, the ground has risen over seventy centimeters this century.

In July, 2003, Yellowstone Park rangers closed the entire Norris Geyser Basin because of deformation of the land and excessive high ground temperatures. There is an area that is 28 miles long by 7 miles wide that has bulged upward over five inches since 1996, and this year the ground temperature on that bulge has reached over 200 degrees (measured one inch below ground level).

There was no choice but to close off the entire area. Everything in this area is dying: The trees, flowers, grass and shrubs. A dead zone is developing and spreading outward. The animals are literally migrating out of the park.

Then during the last part of July one of the Park geologists discovered a huge bulge at the bottom of Yellowstone Lake. The bulge has already risen over 100 feet from the bottom of the lake and the water temperature at the surface of the bulge has reached 88 degrees and is still rising.

Keep in mind that Yellowstone Lake is a high mountain lake with very cold water temperatures. The Lake is now closed to the public. It is filled with dead fish floating everywhere. The same is true of the Yellowstone river and most of the other streams in the Park. Dead and dying fish are filling the water everywhere.

Many of the picnic areas in the Park have been closed and people visiting the Park usually stay but a few hours before leaving since the stench of sulfur is so strong they literally can't stand the smell.

The irony of all this is the silence by the news media and our government. Very little information is available from Yellowstone personnel or publications. What mainstream newsstories do appear underscore the likelihood of a massive volcanic eruption. Though geologists publicly admit Yellowstone is "overdue," they have been quoted as stating another massive magma release may not occur for 100,000 or 2 million years. Others close to the story are convinced that a massive eruption is imminent. A source that has demonstrated first-hand knowledge of the park's history and recent geothermal events stated the following: "The American people are not being told that the explosion of this 'super volcano' could happen at any moment. When Yellowstone does blow, some geologists predict that every living thing within six hundred miles is likely to die. The movement of magma has been detected just three-tenths of a mile below the bulging surface of the ground in Yellowstone raising concerns that this super volcano may erupt soon."

Uh One better they are claiming Allah is going to be responsible for it blowing.

I kid you not.

A Daleel dude on Yahoo has put it up on message boards that are shut down there after.

In other words, at two miles away the energy is 1/4 of that at one mile. At 10 miles, it's 1/100th etc. So by the time you get 600 miles away, the energy is much less than at ground zero. It'd have to be pretty damn impressive to kill something 600 miles away.

What does the inverse law say about 5 feet of lava flowing at 20 MPH all over the US?

It took 9 months to clean up the World Trade Center rubble. Imagine how long it would take to clear Kansas from 10 feet of ash.

If penetration to magma happens at a place where a nuke just blew, wouldn't the magma blow the "residue" up into the sky and all over the place? I'd think mechanical and/or conventional explosives would be the way to go.

Oh, please! What a crock of used food. This guy never heard of the inverse-square law.

The inverse square law has to do with gravitational attraction.

When The Yellowstone hot spot was under Idaho the volcanic eruption destroyed herds of Rhinoceroses in Nebraska well over 600 km. Things are killed by ash and heat.

One cannot imagine 2,000 cubic Km of ejected matter falling back to earth.

Thanks for the link. I found this (highlighted comment) to be interesting!

There is no evidence that magma beneath the enormous Yellowstone caldera is directly involved in the recent changes at Norris or Nymph Lake. Though magma as shallow as 3-6 miles beneath Norris does provide the heat for the geothermal system, the current activity is very unlikely to reflect magma ascent or increased likelihood of volcanism at Yellowstone Park. If magma were to rise to shallow levels beneath the ground it would be accompanied by intense swarms of local earthquakes and extensive displacement (deformation) of the ground surface around Norris. Thus far, caldera-wide seismicity and ground deformation have remained at typical background levels beneath Yellowstone and Norris.

How long ash stay in air? Most ash heavy particle and would fall out with rains. Also prevelent wind pattern determine where fall and where go. Enough grain grown in other areas (Russia) to feed US, plus food stock. Anyway, volcanic ash very very fertile substance.

The estimated maximal blast (blown flat) zone is ~50-100 mile radius, including out of our atmosphere to rain down over the entire planet - perhaps more than a fortnight of night in nuclear Winterville. This is a monumental issue to ponder and for which to prepare meekly one's family pantry.

Picture dead, gray Moon-scapes, utterly dead zones of hundreds of square miles if not nearly a 1,000,000 square miles, a ~550 mile radius.

100 mile radius is I-15, I-94, and the NW corner of Wyoming.

200 mile radius is half of Idaho I-15, Montana, and I-25, I-80 in Wyoming.

300 mile radius is nearly all of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and to Salt Lake City.

400 mile radius is to Canadian 1 in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Spokane, Battle Mt., NV, I-70 with most of Utah, through Denver, and western Nebraska and both Dakotas.

500 mile radius is to Calgary, half of Washington, Oregon, Nebraska and both Dakotas, nearly all of Colorado to Pueblo, Utah, and nearly to Reno and Las Vegas.

600 mile radius, also with a potential building crushing, animal choking kill zone from ashfall, is the area within I-35, I-40, to California's Central Valley, to the Pacific including all of Oregon and Washington, Vancouver, Edmonton, and southeast to Manitoba.

The jet streams push ash more east than blast blown west, south more than north so these radii are for illustration.

Earth's "ash" is very fine, consider cement dust and much finer - re: asphyxiation without masks, many masks each. If mixed with water as ash often is as it falls, picture your house/apt. or office holding up under a rain of wet cement, inches or several feet of it - 6 feet or more. Picture your house's roof completely covered with 90# bags of dry cement, just add water. Will your roof's slope shed the sticky goo? Unlikely. Very unlikely. Roof and/or wall structural failure is nearly certain given the size of the eruption.

A common snow & wind loading design of 50#/sq.ft. would fail with only a few inches of wet ash.

Geologic records show us that more than 6 feet of ash has fallen a long way from Old Faithful in previous eruptions. I don't have those data here tonight.

Forget being saved by neighbors or outsiders, because with such rural country and a few cities of millions, victims from an eruption only a few minutes in duration, you are on your own. Ash destroys internal combustion engines, especially aircraft. There will be total darkness for days on end - globally. There can be no resupply, except in rare instances.

This event will be global, weather and some regional climate changes certain, at least for years if not decades. The Northern Hemisphere's food and fiber production will suffer greatly if not stop for a season. Famine of Biblical scale is certain.

All rivers and watersheds will change. Ash mud/slides will make terra firma not.

This eruption horror would also invite islamists, China , South america, and EU celebrate the end of the USA as we knew it.

Be aware and prepare with life-or-death survivalist know-how. Survivors can always use luck, but significant caches of food, water, tools, temporary shelter, and Faith help. The Bible teaches 7 years.

We are a bit overdue.

Whenever this eruption happens, the civilization of North America will never be the same. The western United States to the Mississippi River will be a solemn burial ground.

The hopie indians also place a major end of time event at 2012. I suppose if there is a major earthquake in LA during 2010, it might be time to worry a little.

Some of it will remain suspended for years, darkening the skies and cooling the earth. Crops from elsewhere could help, but they'd have to plant suited to considerably cooler regions than where they are now, and if it happened during growing season it would kill the current crop leading to worldwide famine.

The codes predict another terrorist attack in NYC....some sort of missile thing.....for 2004.

It would be interesting to see how many bible code predictions have not come true.

Plus, the bible code I just noted (did some surfing on it). That has 5 things I have found which point to 2012. Kind of freaky, but also could just be a coincidence because once the Mayans latched onto it, other folks simply followed suit and searched and searched for 2012 in whatever they could find to try to prove the year will be the "end of time." But, it is somewhat worrisome if the Hope Indians, independent of the Mayans, came up with that year.
