Small plane crashes in North Dallas neighborhood11:17 AM CST on Thursday, January 1, 2004
A small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood of North Dallas Thursday morning, triggering a fire that damaged at least two homes.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. The identity of the pilot and the number of people on board were not immediately released. Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration were en route to the crash site, on Currin Drive near the intersection of Hillcrest and Northaven roads.
David Look, who lives on Yamini Drive, three blocks north of where the plane crashed, said he heard what he thought was a sonic boom about 10:05 a.m.
"It did sound like an engine of a plane," he said. "Then we heard a boom-boom." Minutes later, he said, he heard lots of sirens.
