A lot of people love these vehicles including many 'Rats and especially with the instant write off. It keeps many union thugs employed and adds to economic activity in a big way. If you want to kill an industry just take away tax deductions like the 'Rats did to the Yacht Industry...

Our wonderful tax system is wickedly designed to pit American against American, stirring up anger, envy, class hatred, and frustrations of unfairness.
You should direct your anger accordingly, not at AppyPappy.

noticed the sticker price on one was $110,000 and recalled that was what I paid for a large house on deep water, on a private island, in the 1980's here. I get your point, loud & clear - but no telling what you could get for that house, now, either....

"I got this article from a friend who has a shop in a five unit mini-mall. The smallest unit is a rubber stamp store owned by the wife of an entrenched congresscritter. She doesn't seem to do much business, but her Hummer has chrome brush guards, gets detailed in town at a car wash, has no mud or dirt ever.
She's a bitch, and had hubby make sure the USPS delivers HER mail first.
Net result in that mini-mall?
Two new democrats and two new libertarians.
Selective tax cuts are dangerous.......why not make the damn thing applicable to car insurance, gasoline taxes, phone bills, a wider swath?
Christallmighty, a tax cut for car insurance, gas, phone, and the local college would have 99% Bush fans. Drop the fed taxes on draft beer, and it would be 100%!"

The first link estimates that if 100,000 people utilize this loophole, that it will cost the government about $1.5 billion in tax revenue.Much of that "Loss" will be recovered by increased production and profits all through chain of building these vehicles.

How am I paying for this subsidy? Splain me that.IF you believe ALL money belongs to the government first, and only by the generous charity of the government are you allowed to keep some of what you earned.
Many get caught in that trap. What we should all be pulling for is that all vehicles would have a tax deduction.

About 3X that, currently.
I just can't shake the ironic picture of me piloting around town that old house with its pool and all the improvements me & Wife #1 put in it, for the identical amount of dollars.
Them again, I can't live in the 'Suzi...

IF you believe ALL money belongs to the government first, and only by the generous charity of the government are you allowed to keep some of what you earned. That's exactly how it works. The government decides how much of your own money that you are allowed to keep.

Especially towing around all that deep water. ;-)

If I didn't know better, all this consumin' goin' on sounds like commerce, and a multiplier effect, and wallah, you have economic growth at high, sustainable levels. Darn economy.

YOU (assuming you pay taxes) are the one paying for this subsidy. Perhaps you don't mind but I sure as hell do. You're right, this is government demand management. And not only are we paying for it, but it'll end up making the target vehicles more expensive for those who don't get the subsidy.

There are an amazing number of people around here driving those Hummers now, it seems to me. I don't know if I could, in good conscience, put a 'house price' into a vehicle, even if I could afford to.

Especially towing around all that deep water. ;-)...and all the other stuff associated with the damnable thing!
It was never my favorite dwelling, although it certainly had a, shall we say, "colorful" history...
When first built, circa 1960, it had a pool- one of the first built in this area, concrete-block walls on a slab, that was so much trouble that the original owner caved in the walls and filled it in.
Naturally, we knew nothing about it, so when we decided a pool would be a nice addition, and started excavating- my, my! Surprise, surprise!
Not only were there old Pool Parts down there, but old pilings from a shipyard that had once been on the island. And railroad tracks, and stumps...
The first owner was a doctor here who had a half-dozen children, and what he did was take the floor plan for one "L" shaped house and build another, mirror-image of it, joined by the kitchen and foyer areas.
The "adults" side of the house wasn't bad- big living room, bath, and office for the Doc's practice.
The "kids" side, however, was cut up into tiny rooms like a rabbit warren-- and naturally this was the side the garage was on, so you went through endless turns & corridors every time you went in or out in a car.
Another less-than-charming oddity was all-electric heat... a heat pump, which we quickly learned ( we moved in the dead of winter- here, on the water, it's bitter cold ) could only raise the temperature a degree or two at a time. Having come from a house with central gas heat, that was a nasty surprise, too. Took a week to warm up the house. It also had a 3-phase power system, to get a better electric rate, and despite that, the bills were shocking.
I won't even get into the secret room or witch's coven that was based there, let's just say things kept happening that I could not rationally explain- and can't, to this day...

"Your deduction is limited to your aggregate taxable income from the active conduct of any trade or business. Active trade or business includes employee and spouse's wages, sole proprietorships, partnerships and S corporations. Basically, this means that unless you have other sources of business income, your Section 179 deduction can't create a taxable loss for your business."
